Cincinnati, OH, any audiophiles?

Any Cincinnati, OH -based audiophiles on this forum? I have found only one truly high end dealer here, and they are leaning more and more towards high end home theater so they tend to be quite busye, and no longer set up truly "reference" systems one can listen to for calibration. Would love to get into touch with other fellow maniacs in the area Hard to know what else you "need" unless you can hear it and covet it in someone else's set up!

Audible Elegance in Cincinnati has now received Naim Audio S400 loudspeakers in Rosewood. We will be in the process of breaking in these speakers for your listening pleasure so give us a week or so to really get them going and broken in. As we all know, most speakers can be pretty rough fresh from the box.

Please feel free to email us with your questions.
For those who are interested, I have added the Aerial 7T speakers to our demonstrations. Michael Kelly is a very fine gentleman and a superb designer. Your visits are welcome. We do not have a turntable on this system at this time so please bring along your CDs. We can also stream nice material.
There's a few of us out there. Wish we could check out each others systems somehow.

I am new to area, is there any club? I use to be in NJ and belonged a club there and learned alot.
thanks to hanson for another great music night. the systems sounded great, the food was excellent. my favorite room was the s1 room. great job guys.
New Lyra Delos on its way. For the few that still follow this thread and are familiar with my system... I recently sold my Wilson-Benesch Carbon and Lyra Argo i cartridges. I realized enough to consider several new or used cartridges. This time,I am going to try new with the Delos. It should arrive by this time next week. FYI, these are in short supply as my dealer has sold 3 in the last 2 weeks including this one. This one will rotate with my Zu Denon that I enjoy for a different flavor. CU.
Hansen is ist class all the way.i live in cincinnati and the drive to dayton is worth it. i spend my money where it's appreciated. bought a pair of dynaudio's and just love them a perfect match for rogue M-150 amps.
Thanks to Troy, Andreas and the Theil and Plinnius reps for a terrific gathering last night. It is always a lot of fun to attend these events.
Yes, I plan to be at Hanson. Actually, I was by there last week and heard some killer Dynaudios. They are remodeling again. Their events are 1st class and they are good guys.
Hey Tom,
Glad to see someone checking in. We have met several times at Hanson and Audible Elegance.

I will be attending the Theil get together this Thursday 11/8/2012. Maybe I will see you there. Have a beer and catch-up!

I will introduce myself.
Tom,

I'm still here. But I don't have an audio system anymore! I'm living with a headphone rig now because I could not get my system to sound good in my new house.

But I still enjoy getting together with the gang when someone has a listening session.....

Enjoy,

Tom Turner
Hey Tom,
Good to see there still is some interest in SW Ohio. We have met at Hanson and Audible Elegance.

I am planning on being at Hanson on Thursday for the Theil premier.

I will introduce myself if you attend. You will probably recognize me since we usually chat over a beer and snacks.

Tom

sorry it took so long for me to see this, but a-gon does not seem to notify posters anymore when a new post has been entered. i would be happy to give you a listen. contact me at collinslaw@fuse.net. do not trust audiogon to do so.

Tom,

Steve Dekert inspired me to start building almost 10 years ago. I've heard the early version of the Tori. I like his approach to bringing good audio to those who might not be able to afford a $6,000 amplifier.Let me know if you have lisitening session, I would like to hear your latest addition. I have greating improved my prototypes since my last get together. I will probably see if there is some interest this summer.

Chris
Tom, it was hard to find or follow, but after loging in there is a response field at the bottom of the page. AGon needs to revert back to where we can reply to customers and forums directly from our inbox emails.
Hey Tom, I got the message so I guess ti still works. A couple of other guys in town have the Decware EL84 amp and love it.

Scott
does this thing still work now with the "new and improved" audiogon? will someone send me a reply or are we in the wasteland? if it does work, i have a new and interesting amp. it is a "decware zen tori iii", a unique tube amp. let me know if anyone wants a listen.

tom
I went.

Some of the good was from Merlin. Their set-up was well balanced, some of the best bass notes at the show. He was using some sort of little stereo tube amp. I suspect it had something to do with their sound as well. I discovered GR Research... their room with Dodd electronics was tremendous. They were using their Super-V, open-baffle speakers including servo-driven subs. They were spacious, huge full range sound with no bloom or fatigue. And being a panel guy, Roger Sander's electrostats and electronics were pretty damn good. It looks like he nose what he's doing!

There were some unmentionables. Mostly room acoustics I suspect. Considering the coin some of the top shelf gear was asking, it better have been the room!!

Did anyone make it to RAF? If so what was the best and, worst set ups that you heard?
Guys ; My long search for a amp has come to a end I now own a NAT SE2SE mono block SET amp with a pair of 211 tubes in a push pull circuit. The amps put out 70 watts a channel quite a change from the UltraFi 's with 18 watts per channel .My speakers now have the power they have needed for so long. The UltraFi's were a wonderful amp but just did not have the power my speakers needed I still have the SET magic, beautiful sound staging , transparency and a bottom end that kicks ass .Anybody have a quad of GE 211 tubes I could try for a short term loan ? Now I can start dreaming about a preamp next year maybe at the top of the list is the coincident statement line stage anybody have a used one for a cheep price LOL . I can dream can't I
New toys:

Guys, just got a David Berning 100w triode amp, a VPI SDS for my table and a Zu/Denon cartridge to alternate with the Wilson cartridge. Different sound than before. If anyone is curious to hear this gear, I'm up for some visits. I know that I had wondered about the Zu for years. I also have a Doge 8 preamp that much has been written about. Just contact me.

Hey everyone! Its been so hot recently that I thought it would be "cool" to have a gathering here at my store with a couple of new products that we've gotten in. This event will be VERY DIFFERENT than the Nordost/Dynaudio/Simaudio/Pro-Ject Event where we will have more time to listen to our own music....

Date will be August 25th starting off at 4pm.

We'll be displaying... in 2 Different Rooms the following..

Magico V2's Floor standing Reference Loudspeaker

Magico Q3 (Less than 3 Dealers in the US have this on display as of Yet due to the high demand)

Boulder 1010 Preamp
Boulder 1060 Stereo Amplifier
Boulder 1008 Phono Amp
Boulder 865

24Bit/192kHz Music Flac Files via...
Bryston BDP-1
Musical Fidelity M1CliC
Cambridge Audio NP30 (96kHz Max)
PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC
Boulder 1021 CD/DAC

I want this to be a meeting where we get to play more of the music that you bring rather than a big huge presentation so it will be relaxed environment. Bring your Records, CD's and 24bit music on jump drives. If you could RSVP to the Sales@hansonav.com I would really appreciate it so I can get an idea on how much spirits and food to have ready!

Of course as always it's free to join and please feel free to bring a friend and let us know when you RSVP.

Budget audiophile here! I am looking for a place in or near Cincinnati - other than Audible Elegance or Stereo Advantage - where I could competently and at a fair and reasonable cost have an AT 440 MLA cartridge installed (and aligned peoperly and all of that) on a Technics SL 1700 TT. Any leads?
Reubent, Your more than welcome to come try my Musical Fidelity M1HPA or my Pro-Ject Headbox amp. I have the HD650's and HD800's on display for your listening pleasure... That is if you don't mind making the trip to Dayton Ohio. :)
Hey Cinci Audiophiles. Does anyone have a really killer headphone amp that I can hear sometime? I've sold off all of my audio systems for a while (4-5 systems worth-Thanks AudiogoN!) My wife bought me a pair of Sennheiser HD650 HeadPhones for Christmas and I really enjoy them. I've just been using a little Nuforce Icon for USB DAC and Headphone amp for now. It really sounds pretty fantastic IMHO. But I would really like to hear the Sennheisers powered by a really high quality headphone amp.

So, anyone got a great headphone amp somewhere around Cinci? Mind if I come over sometime to see what it can do for my Sennheisers?
Hi audio club members I have a new email and phone number just follow the link on audiogon and send me a email. I will respond back with my new email and phone number thanks all. I have been out of the loop for a long time and look forward to being more active again . I am now looking for a new amp so no music right now but hope to get one soon . Thanks Marc
Carl, I am up in Centerville. Keep me posted about a get together. I would enjoy hearing the 2.7's. I will bring some excellent demo material. Happy Listening!
Hello,

Just had my Emerald Physics 2.7's configured with Spatial Computer's Orpheus system. It surpassed all of my expectations. If anyone is interested I would be glad to set up something at my house in West Chester.

Happy listening .....

Carl
Does anyone know where I could hear some Totem Arro speakers in Cincinnati? I would be fine going to a store or a home setup if you knew someone.

Thanks,
Dusty

Thanks for the update. I have three of their CD's. I usually catch them at Canal Street in Dayton. They are a unique blend with great chemistry and talent.
Over the Rhine had their new CD launch at Joseph Beth Booksellers at Rookwood Commons tonight, giving a free concert and signing CDs and posters. The new CD is entitled The Long Surrender. I think most Cincinnati audiophiles should be familiar with the band, as they are from here and have some of the most well-mastered stuff out there. This CD takes it to a whole new level with producer Joe Henry crafting an amazing album.

If you want to really hear some instruments in space, check out track #9, "The King Knows How." Absolutely incredible.
Hi Guy's,

If anyone is interested in hearing some great local jazz check out a group called Slice. They play at Parker's Grill at the corner of Reed Hartman highway and Cooper Rd. in Blue Ash about once a month. They will be there Friday and Saturday Jan. 21 and 22. I think they play from about 6:30-10:30 on Friday and 7:00-11:00 on Saturday. The group consists of keyboards, tenor sax, drums, and guitar. Most of the music is straight jazz. They mix in a little James Taylor type music with a jazz flair. My wife and I try to catch them every month. It is a good time and the food at Parker's is very good.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Tom
Guys: Hope the holiday was good to all. I have some interesting bits in my system for a short time. Eggleston Andra 2 (or my Dali Helicon 800) speakers; Spectral amp with MIT wires; Miajima Shilabe cartridge; Nottingham Ace-Space deck with heavy platter (30 lbs); Ypsilon phono pre and stepup ($$$$$), Modwright preamp; several interesting tweaks. I have most of this on loan this week and would be available for an afternoon or evening up until Friday evening if anyone is interested in hearing this unusual setup. I think it sounds pretty good.

Happy new year.
Hanson Event:

Guys, you must go and see this place. It looks like a high-end store in NY City, everything is first class. The big difference is no snotty attitude. These guys are having a blast and it shows. The place is crammed full with equipment and speakers. If there is a recession going on, it does not show at Hanson. If for no other reason but that, it is a real pick-me-up to visit.
There are 3 main listening rooms. The big room is about 25x40. A midsize room of about 15x20. A small room about 15x12. Each room has its own setup and a unique sound that suited it well. Last night they had 2 demos at once, Nordost and Sumiko. Sumiko showed several turntables and cartridges for us old-schoolers and DACs and Macminis for the young bloods. Lars, the Nordost guy gave a 3 hour demo and never sat down, nor took a sip of water that I could see. Lars' enthusiasm was matched by his knowledge. I really did not expect to learn anything, but I was wrong about that.
At the end of the evening, we got to listen to a Boulder CD player. If you have never heard one, you should.
These are good guys and they are doing something great in Kettering. Go see the place.
Here is the address to the event happening today.

Everyone is invited and feel free to bring a friend! Hors d'œuvres will be served for all who attened along with wine and spirits.

Come ready to enjoy a great time between 4:30-9pm
Next Tuesday is Nov. 16th and we will be having our workshop at our store in celebration of our new hi-fi room addition! We will have food, drinks and of course great music and great people. At least I think so! The workshops will be starting at 4:30pm - 9pm. Please come and bring a friend no special dress attire is required just come as you are.

Also there is no purchase necessary to come, but there are a few raffles and give a ways that we will be having! Oh yes and there is a new record store that is opening in downtown Dayton. Might be worth checking out on the way home or before hand!
Glad you guys saw the thread about the record store. A hint, look under the bins as there are records everywhere. I saw a copy of the Mercury boxed set of Dorati doing the Tchaikovsky 4 Suites for Orchestra hiding there. While these sound like early works they are not – they were composed between the 4th & 5th symphonies. They don't have the life or death struggle of the symphonies that follow but they are worth having and are nicely recorded. I didn’t check stampers which are critical for Mercury’s. They should be preferably non-vendor RFR’s. If they are either CTRFR or M’s, skip it for a better copy. I also saw the two record set of Dorati doing Tchaikovsky’s first three symphonies. Ditto on stampers on this one.
I can only hope that I get down there and fine some records before Scott buys them all.

just kidding Scott.
