Cary SLP-98 tape out question

Are you saying the source plays through your Cary to an another integrated amp AND you don't have to turn the Cary on?

You just push or flip the switch and the integrated get the signal?

Sure, on a pure analog system "the loop" should work that way. IF you needed power to close a circuit that would be different.. You are using a simple on/ off circuit with a switch. The difference you are not in control of the TONE via "THAT" loop.

Cary doesn't use tone control, you have to add it before or after the source or the source has to have it.. The issue I do have with Cary, "No Tone control". At least there is a loop, so you CAN add it.. Works quite well too..

I like the sound of Cary. I like the looks of Cary.

Yep.  Zero power to the Cary.  My DAC and phono pre plays through it without it being powered on.

Up until I discovered this, I always had the pre turned on thinking it had to be.  Now, I'm not sure the other preamps I've had also didn't work this way but I never tried them without it being turned on.

This was an accidental discovery on the Cary.  I shut off the Cary with the dac streaming music.  I swapped out the output to the tape out connectors as I was swapping an amp to an integrated amp.

As soon as I turned on the integrated amp, I surprisingly had music. I thought maybe I'd forgotten to turn the Cary off but it was, in fact, off.

So then you are not using the Cary as a pre and it is simply a pass through on the ape out. 
Much like the sub out on a Raven integrated.

All you’re using is the selector SW.
A whole lot of expensive circuitry for nuttin’.
Impressive.
To officially go down that road, dump the Cary and go passive.

I've got one integrated amp that I use in rotation (300b).  I've got several amps that I use the Cary as a preamp so I'll stick with it.

I was just surprised that the signal passed through without it being turned on.

Same on a lot of the analog systems. I'm sure the old Macs, Fisher, D Pass, HHScott, Marantz, most if not all were that way. As long as there is NOT a relay requiring current to complete a circuit.. N.O. relay is normally open right.. The switch can remove the ground on a N.O relay to close the circuit too. Another way to reduce noise and arc/pops..

The difference is NO static because of a dirty contact on a push button or flip of a switch. The relay works BETTER and requires a LOT less maintenance in the long run..  It can also be encased in a non O2 environment to increase life and decrease arc/fire

I checked a C20, C11, and a MX110 all were switched. Flip the switch they would do the same thing.. No power required. There are a few function that don't require power, Tape to Tape without EQ is one, you just have to flip the right switches and turn the right knobs, ay

Same for my SLP98F1 and a pair of Six-Pacs.

Yummy. I have a pair of AESs all dolled up.. I just picked up Audyn true coppers for the signal, couple and Muldof for decoupling..  Everything has been done to those things.. Super HEXFRED, Jensen copper and oils. Choke moved and upgraded. .22 filter added. Scope bias.. Serious little amps.. will be anyways..

You can double the wattage by adding a .22 1000v cap and a HEAVY toggle switch.. 50 to 100 BAMB... They need it. They sound so good but they just run out of gas.  85-6% and 50 watts.. My planars sure sing.

V12R mercy what a beauty. Best I've ever had. NOW. Sure wasn't when I got it.. OK at best. Compared to the SixPac though.. V12 has them hands down.. And the 6Pacs are great amps.. Just have to be kinda picky with the speaker and the impedance DIP. High E and pretty flat no heavy DIPs in the lower regions.. They do great THEN..

6Pacs drive Infinity Infinitesimals to ungodly levels and crystal clear..
94-5% efficient speakers though.
