Can this tube 30 w A class combo drive Sonus Faber Olympica 1 speakers ?

My first all tube system consisted of Audio Physic Virgo III's which are a wee bit more sensitive at 90dB than the Sonus Faber Olympica I's.

The room these speakers lived in had a 10 Ft ceiling on one end which angled up to aprox. 22 ft. on the other side of the room.  I don't recall the other dimensions (I no longer live in that house) but suffice it to say, it was a large room in a 1410 sq. ft 2-story home.

These speakers were driven by Audio Note Quest Silver Monoblocks rated at 9 watts RMS and an Audio Note M2 line stage preamp. 
Different tubes and sound to be sure (300B's vs KT88's) but the Quests made those Audio Physic Virgo's sing.

I also auditioned a Mystere ia21 Integrated amp running KT88's driving those same speakers and other speakers that were not that efficient but the Mystere amp is capable of 50 watts.  In essence, I was comparing a SET design (Audio Note) to a Push-Pull design (Mystere).

I love the sound of tubes - but I'm no expert.  I've been told that tube amplifier circuit designs in terms of power output can be a bit misleading when compared to a SS amp.  In other words, tubes put out more power than you might imagine.
 
Audio Physic Virgo III's:

Power requirements 25-150 watts 
Input sensitivity: 90db
Nominal impedance: 4 Ohms
Recommended room size: 210-420 sq. ft.

Bottomline:  These speakers were driven by 9 watt RMS monoblocks and I didn't have to crank it up for the sound to fill the house.

Best best - if you can audition the Unison Research duo, that would be my suggestion.  Otherwise, if they fit the bill and you like them, go for it.

BTW - I love Sonus Faber's.  At the time I was looking at the Audio Physics, I almost pulled the trigger on a pair of Sonus Faber Cremona's but the Virgo's were on sale.

Lilmsmaggie, thanks, friend of mine has APh 2, quite a big speaker but he certainly needed the biger amp than you.

Have had SF Guarneri H, which many people said were driven by smaller amps, but my experinece was quite the opposite.
Tried Pathos Inpol 2, Burmester 956mk2 but they really opened up only with Krell Evo 302.

I must admit that my best source of information were posts from Atmasphere, I found them very educative.
He said, that ’all things beeing equal’, speaker with 8ohm impedance will always sound better than one with 4 ohm, as they will bring distortion into sound, if the amp is overstreched.

So, I would like to avod that situation, if possible, because I wonder if the sound I would hear would be the ’real’ sound of that amp, or just one with lots of distortions....

@alexatpos I was just using the AP/Quest Silver’s as an illustration.

However, before I had the AP’s, I had a pair of used Soliloquy 5.3’s.
The Soliloquy’s have an 8 ohm impedance, 90db sensitivity. Power requirements was 8-300 watts.

I also listen to jazz at modest sound levels.

I guess what I’m trying to say and illustrate in response to your question: whether or not the Unison Research 30 W amp could drive the Sonus, is that the Quest Silver’s @ 9 watts had no problem whatsoever effortlessly driving either of the speakers I’ve mentioned and without distortion.
Very clean with plenty of punch.

I’ve since moved to an Audio Note OTO integrated tube amp rated at 10 watts RMS and different speakers AN-J/SPe’s 93 dB sensitivity. Everything is still breaking in but so far, I can’t complain.

So, the short answer to your question in my opinion is yes, I think the Unison Research @ 30 Watts should be able to drive the Sonus Faber Olympica 1's with power to spare but do audition the amp if you can.

The more efficient the speaker, the less power is required to drive them. YMMV
