My placement ended up being about 26 inches from the side wall and 23 from the rear wall. They still sounded very nice even in this small a room and I got depth and imaging. However I was sitting relatively near field in this case. You can cover the Rear tweeter if you are planning on placing it close to a rear wall. I used a tube amp which was a bit light on bass and put rolled up foam bed mattress cover in the two corners of my room where the rear ported bass would have been firing. This solved the slight bass issue I'd had. Try for at least 23" from back wall.
They do better of course in a larger room : ) But I have a feeling that I could have done very well with them in a 13" x 16 " room.
