Burmester 218.....

I am glad to see Burmester is being talked about on these forums, they are superb gear in my opinion.

if you haven't had the chance to hear the 218 do yourself a favor and take a listen, I started my Burmester journey with a 956mk2, upgraded to a 911mk3, upgraded to the 216 and have now settled on the 218

going up a level with each amp they all got better, more dynamics, deeper/wider soundstage better control, you name it, drastically better.  the speed and dynamics of the 218 is as good as I have heard in quite some time

just wanted to share some of my journey and joy of owning Burmester, highly recommend.

The burmaster only has 165 watts lol The Sim 861 has 300 watts,

Well, you know what they (the Sim dealers) are all saying, "One Burmester watt is worth at least ten Sim watts."

I am stuck at 70,000 for an amp. You can buy an apartment for that.

LOL at @grislybutter  . . . that's more than my house listed for way back when!

well I've looked at all the dealers that sell Burmester in Canada and not one of them sells Simaudio, so how are you able to compare the 861 at every dealer in Canada please give me a break You're pretty stupid to think that I would believe that. lol

I must have neglected to mention that I brought a couple of them with me.

@zuesman , I just now returned from the airport after several days of touring Canada and going from dealer to dealer comparing Burmester amps to all the Sim 861s I could find and I must say that the Burmesters were the clear winner.

Canada is a lovely country though. Especially Québec. VIVE LE QUÉBEC LIBRE !!!

Yes it is, and now that the Canadian dealers have heard the Burmester, I am sure that they will start dropping the SIMs to make more room to carry the superior Burmesters in their beautiful country.

After I visited those Sim dealers up in The Great White North and did the A/B comparisons, they (the Sim dealers) were saying, "Give me Burmester or give me death!"  I expect to see a lot of Sim gear going out of a lot of dealer's doors at bargain basement prices.

If zuesman really did compare them, then he can’t help it he has bad hearing.

All of the Sim dealers whom I spoke to when I was up in Canada last week did tell me that the Sim gear is mostly popular with the audiophile crowd that is suffering from tinnitus.

thecarpathian,

that's what happens when you're in a good union, I was making $25 an hour back in 2000, and my last year before retirement I was making $35 an hour in 2021.

Ah, I see.  That explains it.  The most you can afford is the Sims gear.  Hey, you gotta make do and do the best you can with the financial means that are available to you, such as they are.
