B&W 802D1 - How can I tame the brightness?

I have the original B&W 802 D1 speakers and for the love of god, I cannot get the upper midrange / tweeter under control.

What can be done to tone them down some?

I did that with my 803 D3 and was very happy with the sound. It might work for you too.

My room is acoustically treated with panels on all four walls and the ceiling. Also, the floor has a large area rug over the wood flooring. With my 803 D3 toed-in (per the manufacturer) it was too bright. Facing them straight ahead worked wonders. Also made soundstage larger.
