B&W 802 d3 vs 803 d3

I upgraded from the 803D3 to the 802D3 about 6 months ago. I was a little unsure about upgrading as I did like the 803D3’s sound and I felt they were a big upgrade compared to my prior 804D2’s. However, I thought the 802D3’s were another big step up. Not only does it give better bass with the bigger bass drivers, I noticed much improved mid range due to the larger mid range driver. Overall, a great speaker and I am happy I made the move.

Thanks, 802 physically is a lot larger, did it see oversized when compared to 804 or 803? Curious about your room size?
So you upgraded demo 804 to 803 to 802. Seems very expensive journey.  I am cutting out one step and going to 802 from 804 d3.

Yeah, I did not plan very well.  I had the 804d2’s for about 5 years when I upgraded to the 803D3 in 2016.  The 804’s I purchased were dealer floor models and got them for a good price.  I did take a bit of a hit on my 803’s, however.   The 802’s  are really not that much taller than the 803’s, although they are deeper.

the speakers are in my 14x 12 family room which opens up to a fairly large kitchen.  

Sorry for the late query but how is the 802 fitting in with your oversized open concept room? I have an opportunity to pick up some pristine 802 D3's for what I believe is a very good price (16900 Canadian dollars (12177 US) But I too have a very large room with 16 foot high ceilings opening up to a loft. This would be about max for my budget but I truly believe that short of going with the flagship 800's or 801's this 802 would be a much better fit than say an 803 or lower? Thanks

16 foot high ceilings may be challenging for any speaker not sure about the rest of the room but the 802 speakers should be at home there.  Amplifiers are important, I’m using a MC 901 from McIntosh to power them. Which is probably overkill.

Thanks. I run a C2500 with a MC 452 so should be enough power. I currently have the Paradigm Founder 100Fs with 2 REL s510s. I actually really like the Paradigms but feel an upgrade might be in order given the size of the room. Must be nice running the MC901s. :) Cheers
