This is my first post on the forum. I am in process of building a home theater. I found a guy on craigslist selling Klipsch R-28f speakers, $500 for a pair. How do I check the authenticity of the speakers. Have anybody come across fake Klipsch products? He says, he got those from Storage Locker auctions. Should I trust these speakers?
Just an update, I went to the guy's storage, listened to the speakers and made a a decision to buy them. This is my first home theater setup for a small/medium size room and wanted to start with basic/average system. Below is what I got, Onkyo TX-NR575 receiver. Klipsch R-12SW subwoofer. Pair of KLipsch R-28F for front L & R. 5.0 set of Klipsch Quintet V for surround.
I did Dolby Atmos setup, 5.1.2 with 2 Quintet's mounted to the ceiling and it sounds quite awesome. I will try to upgrade if moved to a bigger house, but this setup is pretty satisfactory for me right now. Thank you guys for your responses.
The basic Klipsch R-series is their entry-level line, and they're the speakers that, IMO, make a lot of people think they don't like Klipsch speakers, they're a considerable step down from the Klipsch RP series.
They go on sale for close to half off now and again at Best Buy and the other big box retailers and big online sites, which would bring them new close to the price you're being quoted for used.
There are tons of them out there, so I wouldn't doubt that the price is real. I would take the time to listen to a pair somewhere before plonking your money down though, there's a reason they're dime-a-dozen on the used market.
The guy the guy bought a lot. They’re probably the real deal. Check em out and if they’re in real good shape , buy them. I’ve bought tons of stuff of cl with no issues. Let your eyes tell you the truth. Goid luck!
Thank you @viridian Yeah, that is true. He says, these are brand new and I convinced him yesterday to to $400 for a pair.
When you say that the price is high considering age and provenance, I checked Klipsch site, and these are not yet discontinued by Klipsch, first built in 2014. Do you think $400 for a pair is still not a good deal?
Thank you @rlb61. That was my first thought and was wondering if I should even go check them out. This model costs $449 each on Amazon and on Klipsch site, which is almost $1000 for a pair. This guy is offering $500 for a pair. I think I will skip this.
Why would you trust them? You cannot determine the provenance of the speakers as he claims to have bought them from storage locker auctions ... who knows how many prior owners there were. Even if you have the serial numbers and call Klipsch, all they can confirm is that the serial numbers were issued; they can't confirm that they were issued to THOSE speakers. Have you seen photos of the speakers themselves? Craigslist is a cesspool of sorts, and I would pass on these.
