When I experimented with Class D, I found that the KEF LS50s (Meta in my case) absolutely loved Class D and brought out a range I had never heard before from these speakers. However, the Class D amp didn't play well with my main speakers so I didn't keep the amp.
As I get older...
I don't really lust for 100lb amps with heat sinks that slice and dice anymore. Nor do I covet tubed gear that increases the temperature of my small listening room by many degrees. Or Class A amplification that can only be used during the winter months.
Nope, not me.
Enjoying the Fosi V3 monos (32v/5 amp version) with upgraded Sparkos opamps. Upstream, staying light 'n' nimble, the Topping Pre90 with the EXT90.
What amazed me about the Fosi with Sparkos is that on some of my favorite recordings, I heard subtleties that I'd not heard before. I was not expecting this.
I do think, however, the Fosi are speaker dependent. And maybe more so than the other amps I have.
I was enjoying the Super Tablettes driven by the SMSL VMV A1 (a tiny 10 watt Class A that doesn't warm the room or hurt my back) but when I swapped in the Fosi, the sound became too lean for my liking. I decided to swap in a pair of the KEF LS50s and OMG! What a synergetic match!
At some point, I might stretch out and bring in what I consider to be a behemoth amp. But today, and more likely the foreseeable future, I am so blown away by the sound quality of the tiny Fosi that they will remain. It boggles my mind that what essentially amounts to a sub $600 pair of monos (amps plus opamps) can sound THIS good. Funny thing: The two pairs of opamps (left RCA input alone) cost as much as the amps.
