I had a QX4 for a time and liked it alot.
A couple of friends then suggested that I try a Topaz Ultra Isolation Transformer, so I bought of of those too.
I still have my Topaz, and I've sold my QX4 and Power Conditioner.
You don't have to downgrade anything. |
I thought the models were QX4 and QB2 Not an QX8.
I owned one of the ealier models and though it helped with video image it actually sucked out mid bass energy in audio. So I sold it. Again, that was an earlier model it probably has been improved by now.
Several reviewers have liked it, but others said that they didnt do anything. For sure one of those products that you should try before you buy.
I being such a tweaker would like to try one again someday. |
Krell_man, did you use the QX4 with the Resonant Tech QB4 or QB8? I've heard that this combination is necessary to get the best results. Some also plug the Thor into the QB unit. Have not tried this $$$ combo.
Ozzy, I can't keep the models straight with them sitting in front of me :) There is the QX2 and QX4, the field generator, and the QBase, which comes with 4, 6, or 8 outlets. I don't know if these have changed model numbers over time.
Reviewers are helpful but nothing is better than a friend playing with the cables and power switches to tell if you can hear the difference. |
Brian,
I did not try the QX4 with the QB4. I did use it with my $3,000.00 reference power conditioner.
I chose my reference power conditioner over all of the other big names that I auditioned and had it for five years.
In total, I had $5,500.00 in my power conditioner and QX4.

I have had my qx-4 for a year and I am very pleased with results. I originally placed the qx-4 in an adjacent power plug to my PS Audio PPP and the improvement was like a major tweek, but tweek none the less. After plugging my PPP(Power Plant Premier) directly into qx-4 and centering it in the middle of my system the difference has been equal to a major component change. It comes close to equaling the marked improvements I heard after extensive use of vibration control devices(Vibraplane, Svelte shelves,StillPoints,Little Rocks, ect.) It dovetails with everything I have tried it with, such as Shakti Stones,On-Lines,VPI brick, Premier Soloist. There is no downside I can discern.I could go on and on about the positives, but I am a very slow typist, ergo, to the point, very highly recommended. |
I can't speak for the Quantums, but in my experience, improving on the power source has been more beneficial than attempts to improve my sound with speaker and interconnect upgrades.
And cheaper. |
I have to agree with Krell_Man. If you can find a topaz isolation transformer you'll beat just about any conditioner on the market. I recently listened to the Tripoint Audio Spartan ($35k) power conditioner and I honestly don't know that it's any better than the isolation TX. I currently own three isolation TXs and couldn't live without them for what they did to my sound.
I must also mention that Krell_Man was the great guy who first introduced me to them. |
They have come out with the QV2, a plug in unit and a lot cheaper, retail 375, offer similar improvements may be to a lesser extend, since i never tried the Qx models. |
I am also curious about the QV2,because the price isn't too outlandish. But I would have to audition one or two.
Since it plugs into the empty side of a duplex, it sounds like the old take on wiring up a cap or two to the receptacle.
Or like the old cube thing that my father used to plug his tv into in the 50's, Perhaps I still have it.
I've read a lot of debates about the Quantumness of such products and the posts are very much the same believer denier type postings.
In my view, you'll never know for sure if something works or if it's snake oil until you prove it to yourself.
You'll know whether it works or not, irregardless of what someone thinks might be the end result.
I remember my mother forcing me to try some food item that I just"knew" I wouldn't like, eventhough I had never tasted it before. My mind was made up not to like it.
Later ,when I grew up, most of those foods turned out to be my favourites.
And that's my approach in this hobby. Try before you buy, and if it doesn't do anything you like, don't buy it.
I can't understand buying it for any other reason. |
I consider my QX4 to be an essential component. Switching it off flattens the sound and sucks life out of the music. It's great to see they've come out with something much more affordable. I'm so enamored of the benefits from my QX4, I will probably try a QV2 at some point. |
Have comparisons been made between the or any differing effects between QX4 and Quantum Symphony Pro, possibly even Acoustic Revive RR77? |
I have four Qx4 in my system, two for front-end and one for each mono block. They have transformed the sound of my system. I plan to test some Qv2s pretty soon. |
Actually the device is an EMI and RFI filter. With a little engineering saavy and a few dollars, a DIY filter can be made with comparible results. Most of these products utilize a common mode choke and an Isolation Transformer configured to elimate common mode noise. |
I have purchased a second QV2.
This one is placed in my Hydra on the open receptacle my phono stage/pre is plugged into.
What I liked about one goes double for two.
I never realized there was so much junk on the line, because I run dedicated lines and power conditioning.
I wasn't expecting the second unit to make any difference, but it has and it's not a difference you have to try to hear.
It's there, plain and simple, and the difference is all good.
In my system, this is a tweak that does improve my sound.
It cleans things up that I didn't think were all that dirty.
They seem to separate the music from the noise.
They've turned back the clock and I'm hearing things again on my LP's that I thought were gone due to age related hearing loss.
The mass of sounds on the Dafos cut- Passage- are easier to differentiate again. |
Lacee, I have 5 of the QV2's located in various locations within my 3 dedicated lines. Very nice, indeed. Have you ever tried the QK1 ? |
No I haven't tried one - yet. |
