Anyone listen to Zu Audio's Definition Mk3?

Comparisons with the 1.5s and the others that came before? Getting the itch; again......

Charles1dad ,
In this case you're probably correct. But In all fairness to the more expensive gear, the Zu Defs are very amp friendly speakers. They would sound great with just about anything driving them right?
By the way, I guess this would be a good a place as any to announce that I am the proud new owner of the Def 3. I've had them in my home for a few weeks now. Haven't had the chance to do much critical listening yet, but am loving what I hear so far.
They replaced my longtime (23 years) Klipshorns, do to an upcoming (downsize) retirement move. I was also running a sub with the Khorns, but there's no room for that in my new place either. So considering my 6 watt SET amp, and no room for a sub, I decided on the Def 3's
I just purchased a pair of the Def III's. I was informed that mine started life as Def II's that were traded in by someone for the Def IV. All I can add to Morganc's description of the Def III modifications is a rebuild of the tweeter (as per Zu's website). I also understand that this transformation is on a limited time only and will seize by the end of this summer.

By the way Morganc, I am driving these Def III's with that wonderful PX25 you sold me. Loving it!
Does anyone know what the power rating for the Def 4 subwoofer amp is rated at?
I don't see this information listed anywhere.
Spirit,
First off, congratulations on your new Def 4's. I'm sure you'll get them dialed in.
I finally got mine dialed in after many weeks and many hours of tweaking, moving them around, rolling tubes and a new amp. These took a lot of work to get right!
My final positioning is 12' apart with only 5-6 degree toe in, 1' off the rear wall and I'm sitting 12' back from the speakers. Sounds glorious! Vinyl, CD or anything I feed it.
I will mention that when Sean was here (back when I had my Def 3's) I had my speakers about 8' apart, and the first thing he said was "spread them out more". I did, and he was right.
Curious, do you listen to CD's and then vinyl in the same listening session? When I did this, vinyl never sounded as good as CD. And vice versa as well. Now I have all vinyl or all digital listening session.
German,
Go on the Zu website and click on the Def 4 "Gallery". Scroll through and you will see images of the bottom.
German,
Yes that is the aluminum plinth base. As Dave mentions, there is no way you can damage the actual woofer or its surround. The worse that can happen is one of the spikes gets in between the grates, but I don't believe it will go as far as reaching the woofer.

Dave,
I am also considering the Sistrum platform. I know you mentioned that the speaker is still stable on it. But just how stable? I mean if someone (large) accidentally knocked into it (say on a 45 deg. anngle), will it topple over? I just have this worry about something this tall sitting on 3 feet. A big heavy amp no problem.
