Anyone know the answer??

I have a Sony Walkman digital music player that I use with my Grado in ear phones...love the sound. I removed the earphone and use the 3 1/2 inch jack to connect to my big stereo via a male/double RCA connection. I got nothing, even with the volume turned way up. Any suggestions?
