Amplifier recommendation for Spendor SP3/1P

Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for an amplifier to pair with Spendor SP3/1P speakers. I have a Linn Unidisk-SC as the cd player/DAC/preamp. I'm currently using the Unidisk with aktiv Ninka speakers which I plan to move to another room.

Relatively modest budget, lets say up to $500 new or used. Any ideas?

Thanks, bmdduck

I owned a pair of Spendor SP3/1Ps for several years, using them in a second system. The good news is they are an easy load and don't seem very particular about amps. I had used mine with a variety of amps, from a Bel Canto S300 class D to a refurbished Dynaco ST-70. I think the latter was my favorite combo, so would recommend a medium power tube amp.

My main system has a pair of Spendor SP1/2Es driven by an Image Audio 65i with KT88 outputs. There is something about the classic Spendors that pair wonderfully with tube amps.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I've never owned tubes and this setup will be in the family room for music/tv. I'm more inclined toward a solid state amp. Any ideas in that direction?
Used to own these before I moved into a larger space, and IMO they liked an amp w/some SS current. I "drove" them w/a 25W NAD receiver but had NO idea what they could do until I heard them in front of an Aragon 8008. Mine tended to be loose in the bass compared to the non-ported SP1/3, which I also owned briefly and never should have sold [youth :(] These tend to shine in a small space w/small-scale material, as they are more easily overloaded IMO than their larger Classic Series siblings. I think perhaps 80+ watts would do well, i.e. used NAD 270/272.
If you want to stick with solid state, you should be able to pick up a used Naim, Cambridge Audio or even Rega amp in your price range.
