Amplification for Linkwitz Orion ++

After trying all kinds of upgrades I've decided to take the plunge and build the Linkwitz Orion speakers including the new rear firing tweeter and the Thor subwoofer. The project will require 8 - 12 channels of amplification depending on the configuration used on the woofers. SL recommends the ATI 6012 for the Orions and the ATI 1802 for the Thors.

I was wondering if anyone here had tried alternative amplification for these speakers and would like to share experiences.
briefremarks
If I understood what you are saying it would be better to avoid the extra terminations at the speaker and go direct from driver to amp
Exactly -- as long as you don't mind the wires (you might hide them s/how). Cheers
Thanks Greg. I was considering terminating the "internal" wiring in the speaker to a Speakon connector, and then having a separate "speaker" cable to the amps. If I understood what you are saying it would be better to avoid the extra terminations at the speaker and go direct from driver to amp. Is that right?
I'm considering using wiring from the Alpha Core inductors for internal speaker wiring and going with Alpha-Core silver cables for the speaker cables
Not sure I've understood. Fm Orions backwards: connect each driver DIRECT to amplifier (higher voltage, spkr cable), then, amplifier to XOVER (low voltage, interconnect cable). You can use silver for both or the inductor wire for both. If you mix, try silver on IC & copper for the drivers.
Hi Drew. Thanks for the information. Do you have the Orions/Thors? I guess I need to make a mental readjustment after having lived with Classe 1000 watt monoblocks running Thiel 3.6s. On another note: has anyone tried anything other than the recommended cables either for internal speaker wiring, or for the speaker cable itself. I've heard that SL believes that cables, as long as they are of the right gauge, should be fine(just hearsay) BUT I know from my experience that cables have made a HUGE difference in sound. I'm considering using wiring from the Alpha Core inductors for internal speaker wiring and going with Alpha-Core silver cables for the speaker cables. Is this overkill? Any experiences would be great.
The wASP crossover for the Thor has both normal and inverted polarity outputs for the sub outputs which allow you to drive the Thors with bridged amplifier channels.

For the right content 4 channels which normally deliver 60W become 2 @ 240W.

The 12x60W ATI 6012 will be fine for everything.
