DAC for multiple CD players?
I'm using an old but wonderful California Audio Labs Alpha DAC connected to a CAL Delta transport via a balanced connection and to a CAL CL-10 5-CD carousel player via digital coax. The Alpha also has a toslink input which I've used periodically t...
Best Guitar CD Recording
John Fahey's Railroad I is a favorite of mine. I agree with Chris on Ry Cooder's Meeting By The River, as well. Also, Muddy Waters Folk Singer is an amazing recording, with lots of great guitar from Muddy and Buddy Guy.And, while no one would call...
The song you just cant stop playing???
For the past several months, it's been Slaid Cleaves' Broke Down.
Keeping it LOW
For a vocal treat, try a recording of Rachmaninov's Vespers, particularly one with a Russian or Estonian chorus. The bass singers go really, really low -- sub-basement.
need speakers for jolida502 and jolida cd
I'm extremely happy with a Jolida 801a (using KT88 power tubes, which the 502b takes as well) powering a pair of Meadowlark Kestral 2s, bought used on Audiogon for $1,200. The speakers are 14 inches deep at the base and I'm told they can sound fin...
Best CDs for vocals?
For something different, try Kimmie Rhodes'West Texas Heaven. Her singing on the title track never fails to stop me in my tracks.

Tube rolling for Jolida 502B
As I have a Jolida 302b (driving Meadowlark Kestral 2s), I can't comment on 6550 power tubes. However, I think you can get an equally big, if not bigger, bang for your buck by upgrading the small tubes. I've tried Sylvania, GE and Raytheon triple ...
Good battery powered Toslink optical DAC needed
Bjack70jr,I'm curious. I have a Gamma unit hanging around right now, unused. What did it take to get it into your car system -- hard, easy? How vast an improvement has it made? Thanks -- Tom
Advise on Tube integrated with good bass
I second Aball's recommendation of "the Jolida 302b with 'big boy' EL34 tubes." Well worth a listen. I've tried several different EL34 tubes in mine and the EH and Ei "big bottles" are both very impressive.
Blues "must have, top 100" list?
I agree with just about every selection recommended so far (especially Muddy Waters Folksinger), and would add the beautifully mastered and packaged set on John Fahey's Revenant label: "Screamin' and Hollerin' The Blues--The Worlds of Charley Patt...
Vintage integraded amp any suggestions??
A Tandberg 3012 might be a good choice. They have a warm, almost tube-like sound. Back in the mid-80s, I paired one happily with Klipsch speakers. A 300B system sounds like fun too, however.
Klipsch ?
From the Klipsch website, regarding the KG-4s. Hope this helps:>>Two-way system using one 1" (2.54cm) phenolic dome compression driver tweeter with a 90°x40° Exponential horn, two 8" (20.32cm) front-firing, poly ICG cone woofers and one 12" ...

Whats on your turntable tonight?
All this talk of Roland Kirk has me playing The Jaki Byard Experience (Prestige), with Kirk on reeds. It's a terrific LP (also now on CD). It also features Richard Davis on bass. I was lucky enough to catch Kirk at the Village Vanguard back in 197...
