Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
"Most people like original pressings cause it is what the people at the recording studio wanted it, the final product, to sound like. Even that could have changed because someone else higher up in the chain thought a more intense guitar playing fr...
Optimism in Music.
Sounds good to me, too (in both senses). Sorry to be such a thread-nanny, the debating bug is just my nature. Personally, I find "Dock Of The Bay" to provide as much or more spiritual succor than songs that truly are optimistic.
Optimism in Music.
Again, I can't see "(Sitting On) The Dock Of The Bay" as being considered anything like optimistic:Sitting in the morning sunI'll be sitting when the evening comesWatching the ships roll inAnd I watch 'em roll away again[Refrain]Sitting on the doc...
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
Thanks guys, I will check out those articles. I assume if "previewing" is a necessity and that it's made possible by a delay, then the delay must have been implemented by analog means in older lathes, which would of course degrade the signal as we...
Transport - does it matter to the sound at all?
How about ESP?? (My name also happens to be Alex ;-)
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
Hdm: Not knowing anything about what you say, I'm curious, for what reason would a lathe be equipped with a built-in delay, digital or otherwise?
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
You can't generalize about this, it all depends on the quality of the original pressings and masterings vs. those of the reissues, with the present-day condition of the source tapes thrown in as a remastering variable. Then you have to consider th...
Transport - does it matter to the sound at all?
Right, I never said the DIP eliminated jitter, I'm sure it can only reduce it. Its low price shouldn't be held against it, and appears very well made inside (though could be better shielded -- what it radiates makes it necessary to keep it a safe ...
Transport - does it matter to the sound at all?
Without reading through all of the preceding responses, let me just state (as I have before) that no, contrary to Seandtaylor99, my experience is that a reclocking device will not necessarily render insignificant the differences between transports...
Top vs flat loading cd transport
Front loaders usually win on convenience and flexibility of placement options. Top loaders presumably have the potential of winning on durability and perhaps on average for nonresonance, though I don't know if anyone's actually got statistical or ...
Bose Wave Music system
We always spend part of the winter holidays down at the Virginia shore with another family, who usually bring along their Wave (of which they are, like most nonaudiophile owners, quite proud), to provide some background music in the rental house. ...
RIP Dad Elgordo
I too didn't realize Elgordo was no longer among us, probably because I don't participate myself as much as I used to back when I saw his name with regularity on Audiogon. There are other missing names from earlier days about whom I sometimes wond...
Up & Over sampling Is one superior to the other?
Steve, looking at your subjective ranking for the MSB Gold Link w/Power Base in regards to both upsampling selection and also sound in general, you might be interested to check out my archived thread.
Optimism in Music.
Yes, written by Nick Lowe. Great song, fantastic performance -- in sum a classic gem, and as I suggested above one of those depressing songs that's nonetheless capable of making you feel good when you hear it -- but "optimistic"? Hey, there are so...
