Warm vs. Analytical
Reading through some of the subsequent responses, I want to make it clear that I was not endorsing common perceptions engendered by these terms, just reporting them (nor was I trying to define them). I personally have a low tolerance for both exce...
Thiel 2.3 versus 2.4
Search the archives, there are a couple of fairly recent threads addressing this comparision.
Too much
It takes one to know one CFB - I guess it must really have been a bitch being fed all that corn as a boy when you you had to wear those braces (too much sibilance, indeed! :-)
Loading times / problems on Agon ???
Experienced a lot of slowness tonight. Anyone else?
Cheap Strobe Light??
Question: Can the AC line frequency really be depended upon to provide an accurate and stable 60Hz for this purpose, or is there actually some variation that happens here which we choose to ignore?
Warm vs. Analytical
For better or for worse, in audiophile-speak "analytical" is generally considered pejorative, "warm" not always (or even usually). "Neutral", on the other hand, is considered either too boring, or entirely mythical...
How do you get the "real" feel of music?
Beatle seems to have moved on...maybe the latter part of this thread didn't give him a "real" feel!
How do you get the "real" feel of music?
Ha! Bruce, I bought that disk and tried my best to love it for years, but finally gave up and traded it in - I just no longer wanted to listen to the machine-like playing, the intrusive breath noises, or the not-so-natural recorded sound of Galbra...
Who are the Jazz Cats on Audiogon?
Can't claim to be a true expert, and it's not my #1 music, but I get by. My collection must run into the several hundreds of vintage jazz vinyl, mostly from the 50's and 60's, but I enjoy - to a greater or lesser extent - almost all genres predati...
How do you get the "real" feel of music?
Brucegel, do you agree with Sasha's contention that "the rest has been solved" except for realistic dynamic range? I would contend that realistic soundfield (including reverberent soundfield) recreation is at least as big a stumbling block to gett...
Classical Music as Relics for easy listening
Again, Shubie, your critique applies to a lot more than just classical. In fact, I would say it applies even more to rock than it does to classical, because I think rock has historically been more dependent on radio, and is the more radio-centric ...
Review: Audio Note AN-E SE Speaker
Yeah, I'm one of those who would never think to check out speakers like this...I mean, $8K+ for an 8" 2-way in a plain box? Then again, the sound is the thing - and besides, I always *liked* the Snell E's... :-) Enjoy!
How do you get the "real" feel of music?
Well, I was mostly referring to experience...
Classical Music as Relics for easy listening
Hey, DC-area radio pretty well sucks all the way around the dial, not just classical. Only a small number of decent shows on WPFW and WAMU, no really good rock or r&b stations, no college music-oriented stations of any kind, no all-jazz statio...
Who's to blame for the Grain??
Sure, your CDP and preamp aren't the first things you'd think of for a high end system, but you're really not as far behind as you make it seem. I would address the preamp before the CDP, for various reasons - both logistical and sonic - that I'll...
