Storage of other speakers in the room, shorting them while not in use? Myth or true?
You don't want anything passively vibrating in response to music signals, whether that's musical instruments or unconnnected speakers. If other speakers have to be in the room, the simplest thing is just to put them face down on the floor or put t...
can I connect 2 sources directly to power amp (one XLR one RCA)
Even if it has an input switch, those switches are generally not designed to be used as an alternative to a preamp and may not be the most suited to frequent switching back and forth. Even if feasible, it's very sub optimal as a long term solution...
Hyperacusis. Looking for recommendations
The challenge is to find a loudspeaker that has an accurate (even) tonality and full range frequency response, one but that also has relatively high efficiency and does not require lots of volume to come alive.  I've found that some Wilson Audio l...
Just received my B&W 802's: One tweeter doesn't work - HELP!
The tweeters in the D series B&Ws are prone to failure and there will not necessarily be any sign of damage. Getting spares from B&W is becoming problematic but, with persistence, they usually materialise in the end.
Looking for a preamp with XLR connections
The Simaudio Moon 740p is worth considering. Likewise the Passlabs XP22. In  both cases however, the number of balanced inputs is limited. Both are superbly transparent, musical pre's that are feature top quality engineering and build.
Shouldn't This Sound Boomy?
Try moving your chair - you may be sitting on a nodal point in the room. However, this is a classic case of trusting your ears rather than your eyes. If the bass sounds clean and tight, then why worry about what the graph looks like... The kind ...
New Dedicated Line - Almost No improvement
@laynes  Have the grounding in your house checked.
3k Phono preamp upgrade options (JC3+, XP-17, etc)
The JC3+ is an absolutely superb phono stage and it certainly is not noisy. Based on extensive listening experience, I would say that you need to go to a Pass XP27 to improve on the JC3+. That's a reflection of what tremendous value for money the ...
Paper cone drivers/natural materials
All speaker designs are compromises, like pretty much everything else in engineering. As regards Wilson, the company could use any material under the sun  for its drive units, so it uses the materials it does because within its design philosophy, ...
Same power supply from piano and amplifier
Regardless of the cause, you should be using the two power supplies. You should also check their current capacity - it should be marked on them - and use the one with the higher current capacity for the amplifier.
Turntable advice
The Rega RP6 is a fine turntable for the money. There are lots of cartridges that will fit it without VTA problems. And in that regard, it's worth reading Roy Gandy's paper on VTA adjustment and the significance) or otherwise, thereof. In regard ...
Which pair of speakers changed your Hifi life?
In chronological order: Quad ESL 57 BBC LS3/5A Wilson Maxx Series II
Inner 1/3 of All Records Deep Obtrusive Rumble
The cause is not the motor unit of the Technics and the turntable is excellent value for money so not worth changing unless you are upgrading to something better - which will cost. One thing to check is to see whether you get noise when you move ...
Is it me or new audio gear is too perfect and give ear fatigue?
Modern B&W 800 series speakers have tended to be brighter than the earlier generations. Lots of people love them, however. As one recent review in a commented (I paraphrase), this is a deliberated design choice on the part of B&W and not a...
Current Pass integrateds?
The 25 and 60 are both excellent amplifiers and Pass's build quality is right up there with the very best. The sound is extremely musical and refined timbrally. They are not the last word in "slam" but are hard to beat in their price range in othe...
