is there a way to tighten pins in tube sockets?
Get some socket savers. They come in 8 or 9 pin. Before you put them in just squeeze the female pins a tad and then stick the socket saver in so it fits tight. Now you will always replace your tubes in the socket saver not the sockets on your amp....
I'm a tube novice: Tube substitution?
A 12av7 has less gain than a 12at7,so I would not do that. Why don't you try GE tubes,I have both GE and Sylvania and I like the GE better.
Turntable Choices
What tonearm are you are you going to use?I have a VPI MK 3 with an SME 309 and it is a great combo. For the price the Travler comes with arm. I would go for that one.
Best used turntable/arm combo for under $7,500.00
At that budget why buy used? Check out SME model 10. It is $8000 new with arm.
Affordable SS amp that has tube characteristics

Affordable SS amp that has tube characteristics
Nice Conrad Johnson MF 2200 is listed here for $750. I would grab that,it is just what you are looking for,if you don't like it you can just sell it.
Breaking in speaker cables??
Do you need a electrician to plug in a lamp in a wall plug? Just tape the bare end to be safe.
Breaking in speaker cables??
Stick one end of each cable in positive side of ac outlet make sure you tape other end so you don't get zapped. You will be putting 115 volts through cable. That is the fastest way to break them in.
What turntable, $500 or less
Nice Denon DP1200 is on here now. I owned this years ago ago and it was real nice. If you can get it for $400 go for it.
Are Harbeth P3ESR's Any Different From B&W???
My friend had B&W and I thought they were a bright speaker. I have the Harbeths and find them a little bright but just love their sound. If you are looking for a speaker that is not bright check out the Spendor 3/5. I owned them before the Har...
sansui or yamaha
Keep the Sansui. I was never a big fan of Yamaha. Very thin sounding.
Using the VPI threaded clamp and azimuth change
I have a VPI and I don't use the washer or the clamp!
Cleaning VPI platter
VPI recommends windex, thats what I use.
Behringer EP4000 vs Bryston 4B ST & 4B PRO
Those specs are peak power. The Bryston is true power. I just can't see you using $400 amps on your high end speakers. Go for the Bryston or something else higher up the ladder!
Newbie Question: Why is turntable volume so low?
Just get a mm cartridge that has higher output (5mv or more). But your levels will never match exactly the same. Another way to make the levels match is to put an ajustable attenuator between the dvd unit and the preamp to lower the volume of the ...
