SPDIF Coax cable recommendation? Assuming BNC connectors the Belden 4794R 12G CDI has seen off quite a few digital audio cables when I still used SPDiff. Blue Jeans sell it for not very much but it’s quite stiff and be carful about the bend radius. Works well with a BNC to RCA ad...
Requesting recommendations for simple and easy to use music streaming devices A Naim Uniti Atom might fit the bill. It’s an all in one streamer/DAC/amp but since you say you’re not planing to move on from there that may not be a problem for you. You’ll need an iPAD or at a pinch an Android tablet for the app, the apple vers...
Testing a MC phono cartridge @yogiboy Have you actually done this with an MC, which one and did it survive? That coil wire is very thin and doesn’t have to deal with more than half a mV in normal use. I’d rather try it on something that’s junk anyway before chancing a possi...
Artemis SA-1 speed problems The problem has been sorted for a couple of years now. I received a question via an Audiogone routed Email and posted this here in case it’s of use to anyone else with an SA-1 with speed issues. There was nothing wrong with the original ps but tha...
Cartridge or tonearm problem? If it’s solely the tweeter output I think I’d suspect the tweeter before messing with the arm. Power down the amp and swap the speaker channels just to check the problem swaps sides as you expect..
Acoustic Suspension sound in 2020? There are a couple of sealed bass omnis, the Avantage audio César from France, though maybe not available that widely, has a 10” sealer bass driver firing down at a deflector cone and a pair of smaller, opposed, wide range drivers run unfiltered f...
Mono Cartridge Question Ortofon give the tip diameters of their mono cartridges with spherical tips as either 18μm, 25μm and 65μm for late mono, early mono and 78s respectively. I presume mil is US for thousandth of an inch. That would be called thou’ in the UK and possi...
A cartridge with more bite, please and thank you Cadenza Bronze was a good match for an Aro on an LP12, I don’t know about your arm.
What's your favorite $5-7000 turntable? You haven’t said which Schröder you have. I’ve heard the CB and briefly the BA as well as my Reference and enjoyed all three. The various CB, I’ve heard were on a PTP, a CS Port and a Dohmann, as well as one on a Brinkmann Oasis and they all sound...
What's your favorite $5-7000 turntable? Probably the Well Tempered Versalex, though I’m not sure I’d want to exchange a Schröder for an LTD. They’re also made in China which puts me off a bit but that will weigh as you will. I actually run the Schröder designed Artemis SA-1 but that’s ...
Second tonearm / cartridge I’ve run a Royal N on my Schröder Reference for the last couple of years and recently switched back to a Proteus. The SPU has a softer rendition of the leading edge, music swings rather than rocks, though the results were very enjoyable even with ...
Phono stage hum at midpoint on volume control. With the SME? How many ground connections on that table/arm. If motor and arm are both grounded and have continuity between them or if there’s no ground connection to either than that might be it. Just starting with the obvious.
Songs of debauchery and excess The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Gang Bang. Album - Next, appropriately enough.
Mono Cartridge Question I have a London Decca Maroon which I ordered from John Wright as a mono cartridge and on most mono discs it beats my stereo cartridge and mono switch despite the latter’s Replicant 100 stylus and much more sophisticated phono stage, however, I hav...
What now? ProAc Tablet 10 Signatures might be a candidate for near wall use, though if said wall is dry lined they might need to come out a bit. Not floor standers though. |
