Mcintosh MX120 for theater
I have the MX-120. In my opinion, it's a 2-channel pre-amp with the added capability (convenience) of processing surround sound. But, what it lacks "on paper" it more than makes up for in sound quality in either environment. There are processors ou...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
I don't know much (anything) about your Yamaha, so wouldn't be able to offer any advice on settings. I suspect you've fiddled with bass settings "per mode". I know some AVRs offer the option either a basic crossover to the sub, or summing the low ...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
Good to hear English,I'd be interested to hear your thoughts once you'e spent some time with the ULS. I think you'll find it provides ample amounts of bass. Best of luck.
Subs: sealed vs. ported
English, I do not have any experience with the Stadium III. I'd read some of the professional reviews to see if its the one for you. One thing to look into: Can the Stadium be hooked up via speaker terminals and a processor's SUB OUT simultaneousl...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
I have not used the wireless function on the ULS-15s. My subs are set up stereo fashion next to my mains. Wireless...it's nice to have the option, I just haven't needed it. And yes, it would make finding the right location easier. The only possibl...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
The main benefit of dual subs in my opinion is having the ability to balance the low frequencies throughout the room, especially for music. The downside is you might find yourself looking for another black box to EQ the subs (more boxes and $$$)I'...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
Everyone has their preferences. Some "Audiophiles" would even gasp at the thought of using sub woofers in a 2-channel rig. Your initial findings are generally correct. I would first look at your intended uses. Mostly home theater and lots of Decep...
"Dented tweeters — Does not affect sound "
Thanks Markpao, I'm going to offer that fellow double his asking price. ;-)I've always held A'goners (as individuals) in a higher regard than on other listing sites, and I hate the thought of this turning into a flea-bay alternative where dented t...
help on picking new old processor please...
I'd add the Emotiva DMC-1 to the list since its basically a Sunfire Theater Grand IV and can be found cheaper only due to the badge on the front panel.
McIntosh MX120 vs a new Rotel with 3D
Imhififan makes a great point. Your family will still be able to enjoy 3D so long as your blu-ray player and TV can handle display of it.The MX-120 does have 7.1 analog inputs and would allow you playback of the latest codecs with your player doin...
Starting small home theater, need advice
"I'm a blu ray fan, and I don't have to buy them. blu ray is readily available at any number of mail-only outlets. high definition video and audio is here to stay, it isn't going anywhere. If you haven't gotten on the wagon, and don't intend to, w...
Starting small home theater, need advice
I have to agree with pgawan, HDMI will offer little to nothing in the way of sound quality for 95% of your listening. For that 5% of disc based movie watching will be Blu-Ray based? If your area is anything like mine, every brick and mortar movie ...
McIntosh MX120 vs a new Rotel with 3D
I forgot to mention one other minor issue with the mx-120. you will need to run an s-video cable (or component) from it to the television to view the on- screen setup menus. It isn't visible via HDMI.
McIntosh MX120 vs a new Rotel with 3D
It would help to know more about your needs ( like is 3D a requirement?), for us to offer more solid advice. That said, I can speak to the MX-120s abilities. You probably know that the HDMI inputs are video only, so you'll be running audio via coax...
Seeking AV preamp for Emotiva XPR-5
Lucky for you the mistake was with your least expensive piece of equipment (the Onkyo). Can we factor in any of the "to be sold" TX-NR515 money in your budget? I'm guessing it would net about $150 used. The need for 3 HDMI and USB inputs will likel...
