Regardless of how much you've spent...
I just don't keep up with all the new stuff anymore, visiting dealerships and listening every weekend, but I think about mostly speakers all the time, what a particular model sounds like, can I find it on ebay, ect. For example, I've always wonder...
more reliable amp: tube or solid state class A
all kinds of Mark Levinson, Threshold, Krell, etc. class A amps running for years and years and years? Sound pretty reliable to me. My Forte 1a lasted 13 years before I went to another amp.
Phono Stage - Passive Pre- Amp: Results??
I use a Benz Lukaschek PP1 v9 for my Benz Silver Ref MC cartridge, which goes into a specially modded QED passive, which goes into my Eagle 4 amp. No problems, great sound as far as I can hear. Interconnects are Cardas Golden Cross and Ensemble.
Nakamichi Power amps
Based on Nelson Pass' statis designs.. but do they sound just like Thresholds? I don't know.
Very small bookshelf speakers / system
How about those old ADS smaller models (or Braun) from late 70's early 80's? model 410 or 510 or something like that... I always see them on ebay.
Rega P9 - need help selecting the perfect cart.
I use a Benz Reference Silver on my P-9. But my set up is a bit different. To save money, I had my modded rB300 arm from my old P-3 mounted onto my new P-9. Cardas clips, cardas wiring, cardas female rca "box" added to back of table, using Benz PP...

Just bought "Last Traffic Jam" Traffic (steve winwood, jim capaldi and session musicians)recorded live on a re-union tour of sorts 1994. Sound quality is very good and excellent performances, one of the best versions of "Low Spark" I've ever heard....
How significant is a power cord upgrade?
Mcpody is right: every cord will show an immediately audible difference and sometimes dramatically better and sometimes even worse than stock cord. Trying out several different ones is the best way to go. I use Cardas Golden and they work for my s...
Running for Dummest question EVER
"good luck finding them" Ebay is awash in them (Mobile Fidelity Sound labs, Nautilus, Direct Disc labs, etc. half-speed mastered LPs). You'll pay more than in the early 80's however.

Yeah I remember Avid speakers. they were "o.k."My first pair of speakers were Pioneer project 60's I bought when I was 16 yrs old and routinely "popped" the voicecoil against the back plate of the magnet. Same thing with my second speakers, Techni...
Chesky Records & poor sevice,
o.k. at least now I know I wasn't the only one...Chesky screwed me out of $60 or so over a year ago; I placed an order over the phone and never received my discs.. called numerous times and was always told the marketing person I needed to talk to ...

Receiver for headphone use only
Get a Marantz 2230, 2245 or similiar, built in Japan, early 70's. Have it modded or rebuilt, or with patience wait for a cleaned-up rebuilt one to appear on ebay. For the 2230, which is all you'll need for headphones, the price for a really good o...
