How to reproduce sound of piano
The tough part is finding recordings that have RECORDED the piano accurately.. very tough instrument to get right, in my opinion. Many recordings get it wrong.

Audiofeil..Well, you must have had better ones than me.. I think I had two U.S. pressings of Royal Scam and both suffered from noisy/distortion sounds like bad vinyl or vinyl with 'dirt' pressed into it... I had a 'shootout' of sorts with a german...

If it's a RECORD LP then the import will probably not be better than the ORIGINAL U.S. pressing. The only import pressing of a Dan record I found to be better was the German pressing of Royal Scam as the U.S. pressings all sucked (from noisy vinyl...

Rega P5 or move up to the P9 ?
I don't know about the P5 but I went from the P-3 to the P-9 about 5 years ago and it was night and day. That super hard dense ceramic platter on the P-9 is something else

Viridian, True, true.. Great music (I love the Naima rendition) but that recording is not quite as good though.. lacks bass overall. Sounds like the early Mahivishnu's.

Viridian, If only Santana had kept it up! my three fav. Santana's were Caravansarai, Welcome, Borboletta... after that, he changed again. Bits and pieces on later albums refer to this era but never equaled again. Some people do not talk highly of ... 
best support shelf/isolation device for a rega p9?
I have a P-9. At the suggestion of my dealer, I removed the stock Rega feet and use Walker large cones/pucks. These sit on a 1/2 thick slab of solid steel plate with a soundcoated paint. this sits on the top shelf of my Solid Steel 5.4 rack. Rack'...
