Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2005
Congrats Albert, great pics and well crafted descriptions...I see why you get the big bucks!
Manly Steelhead - any downside??
Lean?...Somewhat when new and with stock tubes. I have not listened to the Steelhead after burn in with its stock tube compliment. After some tube rolling and about 200 hours of serious breakin time using a phono stage burn in CD, this unit is not...
Anyone compared Whest Audio with Manley Steelhead?
I have not responded to this thread because I can't help with the Whest part of your question. I can tell you that I have had some highly regarded pre/phonos in my system in the last six months (Tom Evans Groove +, Supratek Grange, Rhea, X-ONO, TA...
Zyx R1000 Airy3 vs Universe
Hi Jeff, that UNIverse SB was most likely mine.
Berning ZH270 Synergy
With all due respect to Andy, the 5965 GE 5 Stars I use do a wonderful job for me. In the never ending search for perpetual motion, the Holy Grail and the perfect sound, I will have to try these RCA's of which you speak. As far as 12AT7's, a pair o...
Benz LP vs. Dynavector XV-1s
Call it what you will, but when I have read Jtinn's comments over the years on gear I am familiar with, including the XV-1s, those comments have been very accurate. This applies to product he does and does NOT sell. Therefore Stan, now you know my...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Mick must agree with you on the Mundorf caps because he is now installing them as standard in the new Grange's line and phono stages. I could not talk Mick into doing the DACT though. I guess I will have to do that on my own. Question for Fiddler....
Preamp Deal of the Century
Hey guys, Jazzdude, I am wrapping up a preamp shoot out between a Tom Evans Groove +, Pass X-ONO and a Manley Steelhead. For reference, I have owned several other preamps/phonos, including the Syrah and Rhea. Like Brian, background noise really bo...

Rowland Amps with MBL Speakers vs. All MBL System
The MBLs deserve the reputation of sounding VERY life like. Dynamics are delivered in spades. MBLs have the most realistic soundstage I have heard to date. I can walk almost anywhere in my room and the relationship between the instruments changes ...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Sorry Pat AND thanks at he same time. How about I just give you a key to the house and you come over any time? You have to deliver all of your vinyl to my address though,LOL!The change Pat is talking about was some of Stereovox's latest and greate...
krell & merlin what next?
10s...the Merlins are in my bedroom for now. A great speaker but I feel after two years of tweeking,I had just maxed out what I could do with them in my room. I have had a deposit with Bobby for his subs for about two years and when I did not see ...
krell & merlin what next?
Krell makes some fine equipment but Krell and Merlins mix like a Jewish American Princess and a great kitchen...they just don't know what to do with each other. The Berning is the hands down amp for the Merlins or MANY other speakers as well. Joul...
Teres vs VPI, SME, Origin Live, etc.
Whats the matter Raul, didn't your daddy pay enough attention to you while you were physically growing up? Or is it more complicated than that?
Preamp Deal of the Century
Hi, Ecclectique, both amps use the 417a/6GK5 or 6FQ5 tubes. I am pretty sure it is not the phono stage that is causing the problem. The first amp went bad in the line stage functions too. It acted the same for the phono as well as the pre amp func...
