ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE STREAMERS REALLY WORTH IT
@nubiann I'm with the crowd here that says DAC is far more important--clockwise, power supply-wise, galvanic isolation wise--everything-wise.  If you use Roon, Roon's own streamer the Nucleus or Nucleus + is excellent. @russbutton +1
Some thoughts on dust covers
@lewm @dogberry According to this it's a "myth" that dust is mostly dead skin https://www.livescience.com/32337-is-house-dust-mostly-dead-skin.html Couldn't read the Canadian dust study w/o a subscription... FWIW
What were your top musical discoveries of 2024?
Whisky Myers--discovered in 2023 but saw live at RR in 2024 Blackberry Smoke--they've been around for years but i'd never heard Nathaniel Rateliff (solo)--i'd heard with Nightsweats but he's pretty good solo too
Thoughts on Speakers for a Small Audio/Video Room
@captouch  I agree with @soix to first work with speaker placement in your new room--i too run Aerial Acoustic speakers (7T) in a room 1' smaller than yours in the long dimension but 2' wider side to side--i do have a nearfield setup which i like ...
Some thoughts on dust covers
@lewm  I don't care if you keep posting on this subject or not--i've actually learned more from you about vinyl matters than most anyone else here except perhaps mijostyn.  i was simply echoing your own words where you said  "I don't know why I k...
Location of compoments.
Incidentally i had a phone consult with Jim Smith and mentioned this to him and he said he was more addressing the scenario where all the equipment was between the speakers--he had no problem with the way i had done it
Location of compoments.
@lovehifi22 I haven't read the whole thread so maybe someone else suggested this but i too read Smith's book and relocated my equipment to the side in a bass null, but i kept the amp between the speakers on a very low amp stand to avoid long speak...
Some thoughts on dust covers
@dwette BTW how did you attach the pic of your TT--i tried to do that in another thread and it was just stripped by AG
Some thoughts on dust covers
@dwette I was going to ask for a pic of your TT but you attached one and i can see there's no way for you to fabricate a cover so that's that.  Seems like a bit of PITA to have to feather dust and mocrofiber everything but since playing LPs is tac...
Some thoughts on dust covers
@lewm I don't know why you keep posting on this either--you've covered it soup to nuts and, at this point, you won't change anyone else's mind who disagrees. @dwette Having a custom cover made of acrylic to protect the TT is not expensive--i had ...
2025 Audio System Wish List Time!
Well crud--pic was stripped--how do you paste one in?
2025 Audio System Wish List Time!
Ebonized tiger maple racks--on the production schedule for 2025 Here's one--the other will be for turntable only--How gorgeous is this?
two channel speaker/equipment consultant
@mikeyb9115 -- Since you describe yourself as a "novice"--i highly recommend you first read Jim Smith's book "Get Better Sound" -- it's an excellent book and simplifies many basic things audio (and does get into more complicated details later) but...
Large speakers plus EQ, what have you done?
@erik_squires "Horribly Bright" was certainly my experience when i adjusted to flat at the listening position--that plus lifeless bass.  Curious why you're collecting other experiences?  Just for fun or ?
Large speakers plus EQ, what have you done?
Back in the late 80's/early 90's i started learning the effect the room had on sound and, going to the library (how quaint?) did research on sound and room effects.  What got me going on that track was an article in [i believe] Stereo Review in wh...
