Clock vs Streamer advice
Do you exclusively stream through Roon?  If so and you don't have a big budget then why not Roon Nucleus as  your streamer--then USB to your DAC same as when you used Macbook.  Nucleus is purpose built for Roon, has no fan and even though one user...
Newer Blues Artists or Recordings
Bonamassa fan here--for the gamut -- Live From Royal Albert Hall and the "Blues at Sea" series as someone mentioned Another vote for Tedeschi Trucks Since you mentioned newer, the new girl on the block--Ally Venable
2024 Audio System Wish List
Improving my streaming side--and maybe replacing the audio rack but thankfully (mercifully?) happy with pre, amp, speakers, turntable, cables (having just splurged on some Fidelium speaker cables) and room--and my only issue with streaming is occa...
Why do people like reel to reel players?
Back in the late 70's i had two R2R decks:  A Sony TC-880-2 and an Akai GX-265D--i used both to record vinyl to tape on first play to keep the vinyl pristine until the tape degraded (and rthen ecord it again) but mainly to create long-playing part...
Have you seen the new McIntosh poster for $195?
Didn't know about it but wouldn't have bought it anyway even though i am a Dead fan--however, i did recently pay $30 for the poster and $30 for a frame to have the Maxell "Blown Away" poster for my listening room:
Is There Just One Single Album That Does It For You, Completely? Just One.
Well you said one and then you picked two so i will also;  The two i listen to over and over: Little Feat--Waiting for Colombus Beethoven--6th -- Pastoral--pick a version they're almost all good FWIW Fillmore East could almost displace Beethove...
Has anyboyd used this amp, your thoughts on it
@audiomike33 I looked at all the pictures on the link you sent and got a kick out of their picture of the speaker taps and their unique spelling of Right and Left--If you go for it hope their quality is better than their spelling!
Room acoustics basics
agree with @willy-t  on Jim Smith's "Get Better Sound".  Much of his very understandable non-STEMmy book focuses on room acoustics and how the room is the #1 component in your system.  Worth the purchase--helped me a great deal.
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
@atmasphere You're right--a bit over my head on the technical side but i appreciate the effort.  What about hybrid amps that don't use feedback--claiming to use zero feedback to "maintain harmonic integrity"--eg Aesthetix--still a problem?  I'm no...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
@atmasphere Like many here i've followed this discussion with interest, especially as relates to the discussion re sound or "musicality" of tube amps v ss--and i will say that in general i agree with you--just never knew the reason why--but as an ...
Entry CD player question?
@davetheoilguy   thanks--will give that a shot--i've got an old mid-90's Pioneer player/burner in my second system and you got my curiosity fired up.
Entry CD player question?
@davetheoilguy  You say "figure out what sub-manufacturer built the transport in your chosen model..." How can one find that information for any given cd player?
What To Do?
How is this a topic for Audiogon?
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
Read first--it will actually help you figure out your goals.  Harley's book may be the bible of high end audio but another very useful book on basics is Jim Smith's "Get Better Sound"--i found it helped me focus on the room as being the most impor...
After a long, long sleep: ML-335
the article i read said they will only service Mark Levinson that they manufactured -- ie after the bought the brand in 2003.  Article said no pre-2003.  But i read that several years ago so maybe they changed their mind?
