Turntable purchase advice sought Technics are solid performers. An Sl-Q3 and a 1600 mk2 are in the stables here. The Q3 is nice due to being able to set the number of times it repeats. Alongside it is a VPI HW-19 mk something or other. It’s nice to have them alongside each other....
Amp for Vandersteen 2ci May want to be wary of older Belles as finding someone to work on them is a bit tricky. The 350a is also a known “quirky” unit. If using the balanced outputs on the preamp, give Bryson a look. Whatever is purchased, ensure that the minimum 10:1 im...
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range If mono amps are an item you have interest in, the Marantz MA-700’s may be something worth considering. The MA-500’s powered a set of my speakers for many years. Good amount of power for little cash.
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range Someone else’s headache may be your blessing. Some units work in some systems. Others are total stinkers. Match the needed speakers load requirements to the amp and read as many reviews as possible.
Improve sound Although your speakers have a fairly high sensitivity specification, they are a 4 ohm impedance load. Your amp does not provide a spec into a 4 ohm load. My guess is an amp is needed that likes a 4 ohm load or find a speaker with 8 ohm impedance.
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range As previously mentioned above, Schiit, Odyssey and Parasound. Although personally I have zero experience with Parasound amps and cannot vouch for their prowess.
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range “a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range” Dude, the options are nearly limitless. Especially when factoring in new and or used. Hafler, Acurus, Aragon, Van Alstine are but a few brands that provide rock solid performance for <1k. Mus...
What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V? “an sme is easy to beat” Not so sure about that….
Protip: Using a sub? Plug your mains Pro tip. Indeed. Merry Christmas.
I have NOVA V's and I am not happy The speakers appear to be 90db sensitivity at 4 ohm. The 585, from my quick research, fails to provide specifications into a 4 ohm load. Odds are this combination is a less than a great match. An amplifier is needed that can haul the mail into a 4...

End Game Turntable suggestions The VPI HW-40 does check off many boxes. Gimbal arm. Speed stability. Timeless looks. Massive platter. Flip up dust cover to keep that stylus safe. Multiple voltages. Unless the footprint is too excessive, the HW-40 is a serious contender.
Getting back into venal with a $2,000 budget. The U-turn includes a dust cover.
Getting back into venal with a $2,000 budget. U-turn makes a nice table that includes a built in phono stage for under your budget. Will it beat the setups mentioned in earlier postings? Maybe not. Will it get you 90% of the way there and be plug and play? Yes! I believe it comes with the Ort...
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system? “Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?” Are they? Or is that the pitch? |
