Why the woofer moves badly when playing certain LPs
Put the speaker grilles back on. If you can't see them pumping it can't bother you. (Only partly tongue in cheek).
Speakers that can reveal orchestral instruments' positions
Both my Wilsons and Vandersteens are champs at imaging, side to side, fore, afte and height.
Whatta Ya Think About Hsu Research Subwoofers?
IMHO the best subs they make are the  VTF-15H MK2.You really need two, located properly in the room, but they mate better than any other model I was able to audition.
If I have good local shops available, should I restrict my purchasing?
We all have an interest in keeping the local dealers around for when we might need them, so auditioning gear there and then asking what they can do on price is fair game.I once bought a pair of speakers that the local dealer didn't carry in stock ...
Pure Class A SS vs Tube Amp
While you can use the hifi front end for video, it may eat up limited tube life, depending on how much you watch. I found it easier (if more expensive) to have two amplification paths - one for audio, all tube, and one for video, solid state. Just...
You just won a $5,000 audio gear only gift card
1/2 of a cartridge that I lust after.
ripping CD collection; need help w bootlegs (metadata)
is the right answer (given the constraints) to simply set up a desktop PC in another room with DB Poweramp and a RAID 5 NAS hooked up to it to store the music, and then find some other app later that will read FLAC / WAV files off the NAS when i...
Interesting study
The majority of my cars are British, but I do own one BMW sports car.  ;-)Hopefully the British stuff offsets the German and I am only a bit of a jerk.....(Just another internet filler piece - ho hum)
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
I still own one CD player, an Emotiva I picked up for when I wanted to audition new music before deciding whether I wanted to keep it (I use a network drive for my digital music rather than streaming).  Have had no issues with the Emotiva.
confused and don't know what to do
I agree that if you really value stereo music, you can't use the same gear for video.Get speakers that suit both purposes and then set up your audio system however you like. Then add either an AV receiver, or do what I do (but it is far more expens...
What Would You Do with a Sealed, 1st Press Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"?
I would invite a few friends over who can truly appreciate it, and listen to a piece of history. Ask them to bring over a few bottles of a 59 Bordeaux. Sadly I am all out of 59s, but it takes a discerning palate to appreciate that the 59s are o...
Cheap Speaker "Isolation" Solution for 300 lb. Speaker
I take it you aren't looking at spikes and floor protectors? If not, suggest that you look at furniture dolly wheels especially if you   have threaded holes in the bottom of the speaker. The rubber wheels give some isolation and also ease the posit...
Best way to A / B test amps? Use a switch?
Problematic if you are talking about tube gear that doesn't like to be on when no speakers are connected, but no problem with solid state.Just have a friend hook up one at a time - a swap of interconnects from one to the other (when muted, of cour...
First Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge Acquisition
Was the Hana a significant upgrade though? I'm looking to step up the scene considerably. In many pursuits the graph of quality vs. price approximates a straight line - the higher the price the better quality you can expect. The graph of price to ...
Advantages of owning equipment from major audio brands vs. boutique shops?
Buy whatever sounds good to you and hasn't got a rep for unreliability.I own several items long out of production, whose manufacturers no longer exist and that keep on giving me great service (phono stage made in total of 200, preamp with less tha...
