Great post, Dougdeacon!
VAC 160iSE integrated with NOLA speakers
Congrats on what must be a dynamite system. Very interesting that the integrated outperforms the bigger VAC separates. I just received a fully-updated 300.1a a few days ago. The new tubes are burning in but it sounds great already.Don't want to de...
Tube Preamp for 4B SST2
I know someone who loves Aesthetix preamps through Bryston into PMC speakers.
Whats your take on the Ortofon SPUs?
Ohnofiasco,A dedicated arm for SPUs is the way to go, IMO. I like MintLPs. I have a few of them for various arms. In general, I prefer Wallytractors because the inscribed lines on the mirrored surface seem a bit more precise, and the mirroring is ...
Whats your take on the Ortofon SPUs?
I should qualify my statement about getting the SPU stylus to stay on arc on the MintLP. (Too bad there's no edit feature....) I can get it to nail the null points pretty much exactly in the center of the (rather wide) Mint line, and it remains wi...
Whats your take on the Ortofon SPUs?
I use a Royal GM II on an SME M2-12R and had a Mono GM until I busted the cantilever. I'm a big fan of the Royal--it sounds rich like traditional SPUs and also, because it employs the Replicant 100 styus like the A90, detailed like modern MC carts...
Graham Phantom Anti-Skate. Is it effective at all?
For precision, I should have said: "...and the *deleterious* 'mediation' of this force through the elasticity of the cartridge suspension would occur only if the A/S force is being met with a countervailing force at the stylus tip...."
Graham Phantom Anti-Skate. Is it effective at all?
The LP is pulling inward on the stylus while the A/S device is pulling outward on the tonearm. Where are these counteracting forces mediated? In the only place that there's elasticity to prevent something breaking: the elastic suspension between t...
Walking Into A Brick & Mortar High End Audio Store
Ignorance and inclination toward violence frequently go hand in hand.
Walking Into A Brick & Mortar High End Audio Store
I think that approach makes a lot of sense, Whart, and is respectful both of the dealer's time and your own.
Walking Into A Brick & Mortar High End Audio Store
Best simply to listen to one's conscience, IMO.
Walking Into A Brick & Mortar High End Audio Store
I haven't stepped inside a B&M dealer in more than 12 years because I'm not willing to pay their prices, and therefore won't use their time. Nonetheless, the best thing I've done to build my systems (I have three) has been to develop a strong ...
Brinkmann/Spiral Groove/TW Acustic Black Night...?
I own a Brinkmann Oasis that I bought used. My screw-down clamp developed a problem. After my local dealer was utterly unhelpful, I contacted Brinkmann directly. Helmut was exceedingly gracious and sent me replacement parts free of charge. I wish ...
Bryston 28B-SST2 or Karan Acoustics KA-S 600 ?
Never heard the Hegel H30 either but I just read Absolute Sound review. It looks like a great piece! How long does it take to warm up :)
Bryston 28B-SST2 or Karan Acoustics KA-S 600 ?
Hi Mribob,Nice to meet a fellow Phi Beta fan. I'm a little surprised at your experience with the 28Bs, as my system does not lack for subtle cues and musical depth. But these things, as you say, are system-dependent and ours are pretty different. ...
