Cornwall IV and subwoofers
Lot’s of good info here. Thanks to all. My budget will flex for whatever gives best sound and integration, and will also fit in my restricted lateral space. Unfortunately, a pair of anything is not really possible, given space constraints, so I’m ...

Thanks, Oz. I’m surprised you moved on from the CW. You seemed so into them.
Amplifier for Cornwall IV
I listen to my CW IV with the following types of amplifiers, in rotation: 125w Class A solid state; 100w class A solid state; 12w push-pull EL84; 8w SET 300B; 3.5w SET 2A3. All sound very good to excellent. The 300B SET is best, followed by the E...

Are others also swapping in other speakers occasionally? For sure. My primary speakers for the past decade have been PMC Ib2i on customer Sound Anchors, modded with Furutech binding posts. I drive them with a couple of different high-watt Class A...

Thanks. I appreciate the info.

As Don had indicated, you need to ensure the VCap ODAM bodies don't touch anything conductive as they are conducive too.  I started by applying high grade silicone tape (electricians use this to cover high amperage lines).  However, I got a bi...
Phono cartridge torque wrench
I do use a torque driver design for cartridge mounting. Albert Porter had some made up a decade or so ago. I think it’s great.
VAC preamps - too expensive?
@mulveling I'm totally onboard with SUTs, although I can't use them with with my Phi Beta because it came with dual MC, no MM. This was the personal preamp of Jay Kaufman of Audio Revelation, and he ordered it that way. No matter, really, because ...
VAC preamps - too expensive?
If you have a high-end turntable, the VAC onboard phonos are a work of art and well worth it. I completely agree. My Phi Beta has a very similar phono circuit, maybe even the same one, if executed, I’d imagine, at a somewhat lower level than the ...

Yes, thanks Don. I was puzzling over this myself.
Poor grammar is disappointing and decidedly distracting in formal audio reviews.
@richopp , welcome to the new empire of fungible ignorance! Reminds me of when the Texas state legislature floated a bill 10 years ago to outlaw the teaching of critical thinking in high school. The stated reason? Because it encourages the questio...

@wrm57 "exorcised" @acresverde , Were you correcting me or simply straining after a homophonic pun? I do hope the latter because "exercised about" is proper if idiomatic usage, meaning "agitated about," whereas "exorcised about" would be a semant...

Ozzy, that's a single-ended amp?

I thought about both those amps, read a little about them. Personally, I don't think 2 watts is enough for the CW. I have a good 2A3 amp that puts out 3.5w or so. It sounds great at low volume but can't fill my space. Steve G thinks the CW4/Decwar...

@richopp +1! I laughed through gritted teeth--it wasn't pretty!
