Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
I have the same experience even though my mind doesn't want to accept it - if I rip a CD to AIFF (1411 kbps), transfer it to my iPod Classic, and play it through a Cambridge iD100 dock to my Rega DAC-R it doesn't sound as enjoyable as the same CD ...
Best PC motherboards for USB Audio?
@sbank streaming isn't the answer to anything as you're still pulling the signal over a wire from somewhere it just moves the problem and USB vs ethernet is a religious war of disagreement that I don't want to get into. Having a dedicated HTPC dri...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Just got delivery of the new Hilary Hahn plays Bach Sonatas 1 & 2 - it has the best SQ of any LP I've bought in quite a while - its electrifying
How can I connect a 5th gen IPad to the digital inputs on Hegel H80 integrated amplifier?
I have a Cambridge Audio iD100 dock which enables an iPad to connect to the digital coax on my DAC. I don't know what experience others have with docks for fruity products but I'm not impressed - playing CDs ripped to AIFF (dbPoweramp CD ripper) u...

Hi Orpheus10, I think then it comes down to a different world view, you seem to value pure SQ and simplicity. I need the setting to be conducive too: I want to listen to aesthetically pleasing music in an  aesthetically pleasing room (I reject br...

I am a "Moron"
@frogman thanks, I'll look out for it!
I am a "Moron"
@orpheus10 you say "I have never met a computer expert who owned a single record, or a record player." I guess you don't know many computer experts. I work in a computer group predominantly full of MIT and CMU post-grads. I am frequently overjoyed...
Does this image give you claustrophobia?
Well it does have a certain brutalist aesthetic ;-)Seriously though when comparing multiple speakers in the range $2.5k to $5k side by side, I loved the Dali Opticon 8s but rejected them for their brutalist looks and went with the Spendors which b...

Weakest link - a different question?
@almarg thanks, your first two points make eminent sense and I hadn't identified those strategies so clearly. The rest, yes, I'd reached similar conclusions.
Rega Brio R or Alex R for new Klipsch Heresy III's.
I agree the Rega products do have a synergy with each other. My setup is British and nearly all Rega: Planar 3, DAC-R (with Rotel RCD-02 as transport), Elex-R, Spendor A4s, Chord interconnects. I mostly listen to Classical/Jazz/Singer-Songwriter...
