Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@intactaudio Connecting to the 40 ohm tap results in less gain that connecting the cartridge directly to the MM input.  On the front panel of the SUT, there is a selector to bypass the transformer, to use the 40-ohm tap, or to use the 3-ohm tap, a...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@rauliruegas Yes I have been using the SP14 with no SUT for some time, and the sound is great except for a touch of hum just at the level of the noise floor. I decided to fiddle with this SUT as a way of addressing that problem, which otherwise ha...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@mulveling Thanks.  Clearly there is something wrong with this SUT.  There's no possibility of wiring it backwards since it has a built-in output cable and two sets of RCA jacks for inputs. You are right about the gain on my line stage.  When pla...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
Well, as I said, I removed the load resistor when I installed the SUT.  Thus, the SUT is driving my preamp's 47k ohm input impedance without modification.  The pre-amp was just serviced and spec'd out by ARC, so I know there's no chance its impeda...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@dweller the SP14 has a built-in phono stage.
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@noromance the SP14 does not have an MC setting.  The expectation was that one would either just crank up the gain or use SUT or headamp. @jasonbourne52 I wish I had someone else in my orbit with an SUT to borrow, but my audio clan is very anti-v...
Shouldn't This Sound Boomy?
When I look at that graph, boomy does not come to mind but I wonder if over time you will start to feel like the sound lacks life or sounds a bit muffled. It looks like there is a big difference between the bass decay and the mid/high decay even t...
Phono Stage Amp
Could the issue be an ultrasonic peak of the Mc cartridge causing clipping at higher volumes? Think about cartridge loading. MC carts typically have increasing output as frequency increases, well into the ultrasonic range. Load resistors tamp this...
Logitech Transporter Service
@blackdoghifi I sort of thought it was likely an easy fix, but the local place I took mine sat on it for 6 months and then said it had to go to the "factory," which I imagine is not possible. Maybe I'll just try another shop.  Do you know where I...
Best resistors for use in phono stage?
@itsjustme thanks...I think I'll leave my setup as is since it makes no difference with my Sp14 preamp and also because I'm a significant danger to my equipment when I use a soldering iron, which, by the way, is why I have the resistors installed ...

Best resistors for use in phono stage?
This is fascinating.  So, question: in a setup that is not using balanced signals fron the tonearm to the preamp, is there a distinction between the ground and the negative lead? I ask because I may have screwed something up. I have set up my loa...
Best resistors for use in phono stage?
I bought a set of el-cheapo resistors from Amazon (but still having tight tolerance), which I use for cartridge loading. As stated previously,  the signal headed to your speakers does not actually pass through the load resistors.  Anyway, I can't ...
Your sub experience: Easy or hard?
I spent pretty significant time setting up my sub, but it was a labor of love. For reference,  I spent even more time setting up my analog front end--an ongoing exercise, and even more time than that finding the correct placement for my main speak...
I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'm bugged.
I've listened to a lot of amps on a lot of different systems, and I would say that specs are probably less correlated with sound in the case of an amp than they are with virtually any other component on the system. If someone put a gun to my head...
