Empire EDR9 cart into Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp, sounds awful
I've just installed Empire EDR9 cartridge on my Jelco SA-750E 10 inch tonearm, and connected it to my Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp. The sound I got from this cartridge is shockingly bad. Dull, wimpy, limp, barely any highs or any slam or b...
Is this an alternative to Stromtank and PS Audio ?
Using batteries to power an inverter offers 0, nada, none, zip advantages to drawing from household current. Both will ignore spikes, lower voltage, higher voltage, and frequency variations. Just with the battery “powered” version, you get to pay ...
MoFi controversy
DSD is the best format for capturing sound from microphones. Period.   I have 3 PS Audio Octave Studios vinyl LPs, and 6 SACDs/CDs. They are of exceptional quality! They capture using DSD, then mix in PWM or analog. The Octave Records LPs are my...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@mglik  On EBay, there is a GE VR 1000 for about $700. It is interesting since there are several stylus about $30. I am not a fan of setting up a cartridge. And I can’t imagine a 1000 will stand up to my Lyra Atlas SL. Love my Lyra. Is it wor...
Are You Happy With Your Phono Preamp?
Nothing wrong with the PS Audio Steller phono pre. Your problem is, if you start making lateral moves (^^^^^^^) by the above suggestions, you’ll never stop chasing your tail, looking for that “next big thing dujour!!”
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
Dear @wolfie62  : Now I own that ADC in stock condition. I posted a thread of the ADC 26/27 original status where I made tests comparisons against top today LOMC cartridges and overall in my room/system me and the owners of the today LOMC cartr...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@rauliruegas  But I'm talking here of vintage cartridges that if were under today production with today parts used for the top LOMC cartridges will be a true challenge to them. So far, I’ve not had any MC cartridges beat the ADC 10E MKIV with ...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@mglik  What about moving iron cartridges?? I have always been interested in the legendary London Decca Reference cart. I currently use a Lyra Atlas SL. Hard to imagine a $5250 London beats the $13K Lyra. But the. London reviews all say it ...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@jasonbourne52    @wolfie62 : a mono pole magnet does not exist! If you could invent one you could qualify for the Nobel Prize for Physics! LOL!!! Really? You are EXACTLY the type of person I was referring to! You don’t comprehend how MC/MI/...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
Having 134 vintage cartridges and having bought/tried/sold 5 MC carts, there are points not mentioned, and poorly explained in this thread. MC carts do NOT have the edge in detail or lower moving mass. And while MM and MI carts work identically, ...
Price Isn't Always Indicitive of Quality or Performance
My AudioQuest power cables ($6300) were destroyed by my homemade power cables ($150). So there ya go!!
Acoustic Guitar on Vinyl
Octave Records vinyl has quite a few acoustic guitar selections. Some of the best vinyl in my collection. Outstanding recordings, vinyl mastering and pressings. I use them as my vinyl reference recordings.
Dynaudio - Made in China vs Denmark
Back in 1986 I bought 20 various Dynaudio woofers and 20 Dynaudio tweeters. I bought them from Meniscus, when Dynaudio still sold drivers to individuals. I still have them, NOS NIB.   I bought them for car audio installations, and they were exce...
Where do you buy your vinyl?
I hit my local thrift stores. 10/$1.00 . All good titles, every decade 50s-2000. Wednesday I found 4 original Pink Floyd DSOTM, 3 The Wall, and 2 each of 11 other PF original issues. Lots of Billy Joel, etc., etc. I spent $25, 250 albums. I’ll ke...
Fact or misinformation?
I use a GE VRII Golden Treasure cart for mono records. Absolutely sublime and whisper quiet. I use only 1 channel (blue and white) and use the mono button on my preamp. It results in proper loading, proper phase. I get sick of people saying there ...
