Static attack! Time to get the humidifiers going
I haven’t had problems with static in the last 15 years. I have a bright LED lamp that shines horizontally across my platter, so I can see dust readily.    My brother lives in International Falls MN, so I showed him how to get rid of static and d...
THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME DOMAIN RESPONSE MUST READ
Vandersteen has been prioritizing time domain from day one. VMPS also.
Experienced only: What have you done with room correction?
I had a dedicated music room built.
Most underrated female recording artists..
Linda Ronstadt. She’s the only one who can sing in EVERY genre, very successfully, and has. I don’t know of any other female singer who has done what she’s done. Opera, classical, pop, country, blue grass, big band, jazz, new age.
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
@invalid  No. That’s not what I’m saying.  Example would be PS Audio’s BHK600 monoblocks. $32,000 per pair, I believe. Paul says it’s full of expensive components. Maybe. But 2 well selected monoblocks at $20,000 per pair can sound as good from a...
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
$40K amp sound “better?” No. It sounds “expensive.” Expensive doesn’t translate to “better.” Any engineer can design an “expensive” amp. Few can design a “better” amp.
Record collecting versus hoarding
I have 5,000+/- records. Just last night I played a record I bought in 1982,  for only the 3rd time. I only listen to it when I’ve made a major change in my system. It’s a Teldec pressing (Hamburg WG) of the digitally recorded RCA Red Seal Digital...
Try This With Your SS Amp
Just use burnt out tubes with LED lights on a mostly hollow chassis. It will lower your heating bill and give you that warm tube aesthetic while you enjoy your SS music bliss!!!
Direct Drive
I’ve got idler drives, belt drives, and DD tables. Motor noise from DD??? Must be a cheap Fisher or BSR. The only thing that can possibly make noise in a DD is the spindle bearing. But guess what?? ALL belt drives and idler drives have a nearly ...
Looking for good recordings of female vocals I have not yet tried...
I can understand anyone trying to find a jazz vocalist besides Diana Krall.   She is WAY too whispery/throaty to be a good vocalist in the jazz genre.
Creedence on vinyl
Original pressings. As it was. As it was meant to be. That’s how I heard them in 1969-1971. 50+ year old master tapes???? What could go wrong??
Would you spend you money on modest brand new car or rather buy top notch vintage one?
My cars are 31, 24, and 23 years old. SO MUCH CHEAPER to keep older cars!! For the difference in price of JUST ONE new car, vs 3 already paid for, I can keep all 3 going strong for another decade! …..And, have money left over for great audio gear...
For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system.
Impossible to take the room out of my system. I designed the room, then chose the equipment to taylor to the room design. So I have no regrets.
Empire EDR9 cart into Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp, sounds awful
I've just installed Empire EDR9 cartridge on my Jelco SA-750E 10 inch tonearm, and connected it to my Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp. The sound I got from this cartridge is shockingly bad. Dull, wimpy, limp, barely any highs or any slam or b...
Is this an alternative to Stromtank and PS Audio ?
Using batteries to power an inverter offers 0, nada, none, zip advantages to drawing from household current. Both will ignore spikes, lower voltage, higher voltage, and frequency variations. Just with the battery “powered” version, you get to pay ...
