Buzz or hum I have to mention (well...I do) that I scored a NOS PS Audio Humbuster. A great thing that works exactly as described for mechanical hummage. That's right...hummage.
Looking for brighter tubes Thank you.
Looking for brighter tubes I think you just make a glass bulb and stick some wire in it...I plan to suck the air out with my vacuum cleaner or merely place the thing in range of a Lana Del Ray song...this should work...
Buzz or hum Float the ground in the preamp (those little 3 prong adapters)...not a big deal. My preamp/amp combo used to hum and that's how I solved it until I bought a different preamp (Kavent S-33) and it's weirdly 2 prong. I also use the ground lift switch...
Looking for brighter tubes That video is hilarious, and also...Edwin Howard Armstrong's story is really interesting although tragic. I think the consensus is that KT120s will work in a 502P, and not set your cat on fire...I'm off to melt some sand.
Looking for brighter tubes I've decided mine some ore and melt some sand and make my own tubes...I mean really...how hard could that be?
Looking for brighter tubes Wilson667...good question...if yours is a couple of months old it's likely a current version, although of course I have no idea. On mine the labeling on the front has the silk screened Jolida name and a small gold logo badge, unlike any pics of th...
Looking for brighter tubes In a phone conversation about 10 minutes ago, Mike Allen of Jolida told me that KT120s should work fine in my (newer version) JD502P. So there. Also, he seems like a cool guy.
REVIEW: Meng Yayi KT88 Monoblocks I just bought a new Jolida JD502P and it looks and sounds great (inside and outside). It's Chinese/American.
Looking for brighter tubes Man...the 502p sounds damn good as new (getting better every day) even without the use of this collective wisdom, so once I digest all this and cram some new glass into the thing it just might sound TOO good, thus giving me nothing else to do. Exc...
Looking for brighter tubes I'm still only a third or so of the way through the "break in" period of my amp (300 hours...gives me a reason to live!), after which I'll be more able to decide what, if anything, needs sonic tweaking. The dude who designed the amp is a fan of ol...
Looking for brighter tubes Not sure about the power supply but the caps were Maryland Jolida upgraded (along with other items in the "upgrade" mod version). The 12AT7s currently are EH Russians (the only non-Tung Sols). The amp is new-ish (newest version actually, and suppo...
Best DAC for $500 Ditto the DACmagic/Pangea 100 combo...more inputs and outputs than most, and it sounds truly amazing (not recommended for USB but I don't use that feature anyway. If I did I'd maybe get the new "plus" version) shop around (although the P100 power ...
tube amp auto bias and general tube amp use Modern tube amps are a lot more rugged than one might think, and one of the nice things about 'em is if after thousands of hours of use a tube gets old, you simply replace it. Also, I seriously doubt that any harm comes from hitting the re-bias se...
Rega R3 Rega speakers were prefered in a speaker shoot out in some UK audio mag not long ago...won out over 4 others. Can't remember the model but they were a 3 way tower with a side firing woofer. Seemed pretty cool to me! |
