What Meatloaf and Beer Have Taught me about Audiophiles
Meatloaf used to coach the girls softball team in my town. Is that on topic? Also,  IPA seems to have taken over local breweries and I'm kinda tired of it. I prefer Belgian style or simply Guinness these days. Pilsner...
Dedicated headphone amp vs Headphone socket on amp
I shut off the power amp in my main system and switch on a Schiit Vali 3 with a Loki EQ (my Freya preamp has 3 outputs). Great sounding combo that just sings. Around 300 bucks for this rig including the little Schiit cables between the Vali and th...
What artists can you not get enough of?
Don Ho.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?
I had a Basset Hound that would quietly get up and leave the room if I played any acoustic guitar...insulting, as I'm a damn good guitar player...he's gone but I'm still upset about it.
5ar4 rectifier tube
I use the tubestore "preferred" (Shuguang) 274b tubes in my Had Firebottle because they look so cool. They seem to work very well but mostly...hey...it's the look.
How do I connect my speaker cables to this Coda Amp
I like the Furutech connectors on the XA-25...gotta get used to them but with proper size spades they're great.
polishing pins of NOS tubes
Just put a small amount of gunpowder in the tube sockets and blow the crap out of 'em. Put the tubes in the dishwasher to clean the pins or cover them in peanut butter and let bugs eat it off.
No preamp in system
My exotic and expensive Schiit preamp (cost nearly a thousand dollars!) has a "passive" setting so you can instantly hear it not doing much. I know it's expensive but totally worth it...
Background vibration and your system.
I agree that the entire vibration issue goes out the window with the use of powered speakers, many of which sound great. I prefer passive speakers so I can choose the amplification I want to hear (I bounce between a single ended tube amp and a Pas...
Im going to regret my cable question
I needed a longer pair of cables and stumbled upon the latest version of Kimber 8PRs. Varied thickness multi strand solid core, great connectors, etc. Brilliant cable sounding great. Underpriced and looks cool.
Gain level on a REL sub
Bass is both an instrument and a fish.
Gain level on a REL sub
BASS not base.
Seeking a Tube preamplifier
Get  "class a" rated Schiit Freya + and save some bucks over most anything else comparable (nothing else comes close really). The most versatile great sounding preamp out there.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?
Shoe Gaze, Death Folk, Opera (that's a shame but oh well), most Hippity Hop, most pop although occasionally something squeaks through somewhere. Although in my many decades as a musician I've never been a jazz player, that's pretty much 90% of my ...
Gain level on a REL sub
I have a few RELs (2 in my main hifi rig) and even using various amps and speakers there's never been a gain issue. I use the recommended "high level" (from speaker outs) system and it works great. Since I've never tried the line level inputs on t...
