Tube integrated A Jolida 3502S takes various power tubes, has at least 60 watts per side, and has a balanced input. It's only issue is that it may be too inexpensive (maybe 1500 to 1800 bucks new). Note that I used a 502P (lightly factory upgraded) amp for years ...
Revel F12 - I need speaker GRILLS! Surprised Revel does't stock them. I need a grill cover for a sub (Mackie HMR 120 in case anybody has one lying around) that I sort of gave up on finding.
Wide dispersion + high efficiency + detail + coherence in a speaker? Like previously noted…Klipsch Heresy III…el disperso a mundo.
Can pro amps possibly sound good? Crown, QSC, etc I use thousands of watts in a live show, 12 single ended tube amp watts per side for my hifi rig (well…not counting my subs).
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic I think that it's clear that micro-arcing is a danger to the audio world to such a degree that we need to find out everything we can about it.
Can pro amps possibly sound good? Crown, QSC, etc In my studio area with the piles of bass and guitar amps and a synth, I use an ancient (relatively) Alesis RA 100 (no fans, just large heatsinks) amp powering a pair of Mackie 10" 2 way C200 P.A. speakers on stands, with a 500 watt HR120 (disconti...
Ugly vs Gogeous speakers I like exotic woods liked striped ebony and at one point nearly bought a pair of Thiels just for that (and they sounded good of course). Alas, I have generally bought speakers for sound only…Vandersteen 1Bs years ago…a large sock…Silverline Prelud...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic I've noticed it's difficult to find much information about micro-arcing in audio cables. This could be due to my lame searching skills, but if anybody has suggestions as to where to look for that information I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Tube integrated I like the Rogers stuff for an integrated, and they have new one with EL34s or KT88s that's not too expensive, although at 25 watts (and Class A) might not make your cut.
Vincent SV-236MK I don't own the 236, but my friend's doesn't have a phono section, and he just changed the tubes and thinks the thing sounds brighter. That's all I can offer.
Integrateds: Why do they all SUCK? Providential guidance? Free will. Period. However, I was listening to some stuff at an audio geek friend's house last weekend (he produces and I mix a successful concert series), and I was musing about the fact that people who otherwise appreciate...
Wide dispersion + high efficiency + detail + coherence in a speaker? I use subs and new Klipsch Heresy IIIs…subs bought used a few years ago (200 clams each…REL Q150e, Q108 II)…with a well sorted pile of gear behind them, the Heresy IIIs are surprisingly coherant…not beamy, especially for horns (phase plugs do work...
Deoxit for cables It seems highly unlikely that applications that allegedly help a signal to come through (most connectors with gold plating do this just fine anyway) or stop the dreaded "micro arcing" plague will not have any effect on that signal…unless the crud ...
Rolling KT150s in Primaluna hp integrated I'd love to be part of a "tube lending cabal" as I'm not sure the cryo process is a good idea for tubes but that's maybe just me…the good news is my "Fire Bottle HO" will accommodate a lot of different tubes and only needs 2 power tubes…anything f...
How do SVS subwoofers compare to REL? Another purchasing tip are the REL Q108 IIs on Ebay for around 300 bucks or so. That model shows up frequently and I found one a few years ago for 200 bucks, but I was lucky. For a single 8" 100 watt design these things are amazing. |
