Anyone have experience with the Tung Sol 7581a vs. EL34, KT66, KT88, 6L6 Update...I now consider KT120s my fave for my Dennis Had Inspire "Firebottle" HO (it's a HO...says it right there on the amp) single ended pentode amp. So there.
Anyone running Schiit Audio Freya preamp and a pair of Vidar power amps? What speakers? I've had a Freya since last November and I think it's a giant killer of a preamp. Mine doesn't have some of the things people quibble about with these, it's utterly humless, the stock tubes aren't microphonic, and I hit the LEDs with some green ma...
Revel F35 vs Klipsch Heresy II or maybe III Oddiofyl and I are the "Heresy III Mafia" around here, but if only to help a little company in Arkansas...The Heresy IIIs don’t have a "unique" sound particularly, they’re clear and precise...it is sort of a sideways adventure that brought me to t...
Best speaker/system piano concerts Yeah terry9...I was simply yammering...I prefer simple stuff...single ended amp, tube preamp, clean ear canals, etc. Kalili...2 good condenser mics, one over the treble side and one down the bass side does the job. Some EQ and general level tweaki...
Best speaker/system piano concerts Speed isn't an audio term I pay much attention to as it's somewhat meaningless...subtlety in design? Does that mean careful soldering? A great sounding system puts the recording into the air relatively unscathed, so the recording is where the diff...
Best speaker/system piano concerts Great piano reproduction by any system becomes evident when you notice that all recorded pianos sound somewhat different from each other.
Best speaker/system piano concerts Any decent system will give you fine piano sound without you having to spend into the stratosphere...I'm a piano freak and enjoy a range of stuff from classical to jazz, and in my job mixing live shows I often work with a fine, recently tuned larg...
Klipsch Heresy 1 Speakers..... with Emerald Physics Amps 100.2 SE It's pretty much impossible to have amps that are too powerful. However, the "first watt" idea is that the initial tone of any amp is where the truth is, not necessarily in its ability to arc weld, thus the less powerful but great sounding amp tri...
What makes a speaker sound great at low volume? Please..it's BASS, not base...unless we're talking about footers or stands or fans...BASS. Thank you. Also, looking for low tones in audio is called Bass Fishing...they have tournaments...here's a thing, my Schiit Freya has a clicking yet interest...
Why is Oppo stopping products. I have an '09 BMW that does have a CD player, and a new MINI Turbo that does not...weirdly, nobody in the car industry asked me if it's OK to bag CD players in cars, as I would have said, "Hell no."
I am TORN between Tube power amp and SS power amp. My 91db speakers sounded fabulous and played plenty loud and clear with a Dennis Had 12 watt (or maybe 17 watts...not sure) per side amp, but I switched to 99db Klipsch Heresy IIIs mostly to keep Almarg happy, as I deign to avoid his ire.
Jolida Fusion 3502S vs. Jolida Fusion 801 I talked to new CEO "Jolida Jarred" a few times when I was purchasing my Jolida 502P (he's the guy who recommended the upgrade for about 100 bucks), and am surprised they're changing the name to Black Ice (Maybe only some of the Jolida stuff...not...
Best Rocking Speakers 15K and Under I keep yammering about my recently acquired Klipsch Heresy IIIs, and with the 2 REL subs I use with them they are very dynamic and clear, even with a 12 watt pc single ended amp...under 2 grand...simply fabulous sounding speakers.
What makes a speaker sound great at low volume? The Fletcher Munson curve is a reality that cannot be avoided, and although efficient speakers (especially horns) do "seem" to sound better at low volume (I use Klipsch Heresy IIIs at 99db efficiency with a 12 watt per side tube amp) they can’t ru...
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? Non sound reinforced (i.e. simply acoustic) shows are far different from otherwise, and an acoustic quartet certainly does have "startling dynamics" to the musicians playing the instruments, and maybe anybody within 10 feet of them...but that's ab... |
