Record Store Day 2024?
My fave bluegrass album is Chris Thile, Yo Yo Ma, and Edgar Meyer playing Bach trios. Very early bluegrass...gotta love them 18th century German hillbillies.
Does Every Track Sound Great on Your System?
Again, the Loki Max is an astonishing EQ specifically designed for home audio and its remote makes it in a class by itself. Nothing like it, it works perfectly. Absolute Sound "product of the year"...blah blah...Don't expect it to work like a stud...
Subwoofer for music only ?
I've been using a pair of older (bought used) RELs for years...a Q150e (10" front firing 150 watts), and a Q108MK2 (8" down firing 100 watts). They work absolutely perfectly and cost around 200 bucks each. These RELs seem to have more adjustabilit...
Anyone listen to entire albums?
LPs get a full listen, and generally CDs also, especially since I'm using a single CD transport these days (my ancient "built like a tank" Marantz  5 disc CD changer still works and sounds great but can't compete with the convenience of streaming)...
Accuphase or Leben for heavy metal
Atmasphere frequently comments on "music specific" gear being a silly idea and I agree 100%. Maybe you don’t want mini monitors for metal, but maybe you don’t want those for Mahler either. Or maybe you do. Do you plan to sit 50’ away from your sys...
Does Every Track Sound Great on Your System?
My system with 2 REL subs rarely need adjustment, but I can easily turn the bass level up or down on the RELs (easily accessible using the infamous "chicken head" knobs) or use my Schiit Loki Max to EQ an out of balance recording (seriously, every...
Worst Speakers Ever??
I used a KLH system (model 20 maybe...the one without the FM tuner) in the 70s as the speakers sounded simply better than anything else I could afford. Most of my budget went to guitars and guitar amps etc. as I was a working musician so I hung wi...
Cool running, low powered power amp
An XA-25 runs hot. Get a cheap little anything a/b or D to fill in, or spend a little on the AC.
I suddenly have a weird buzz issue; can someone help me solve the problem?
I recommend the song, "I'm through with Buzz" by Steely Dan. That should fix it.
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
Old Linn Basik/Akito going from MMs to current Ortofon Quintet Blue MC...sort of amazing sounding...tweaked by nearby Goodman's...el cheapo...into an old Caimbrige phono pre with a bespoke Peter Madnick Pangea power supply. Sounds superb.
Can a power amp have too much power, risking damage to a speaker?
I've been playing electric bass for decades and I have a couple of pro bass amps (15s, 12s, mondo pro sub) and one learns that there's obvious limits on how loud you can play before the speakers get annoyed. Is this too basic? Over 6 maybe? Electr...
Schiit Loki equalizer causing POPPING SOUND
I use a couple of Lokis (Headphones mostly as the newer Max replaced one in my main rig) and a Loki Max and all are very quiet with zero noise when taking them in and out of the line, and the Lokis can even be turned off completely without a peep....
Audiophilism is a hobby
The assumption or theory that paying attention to your gear can have a negative effect on  how you feel about music seems ridiculous. If that's the case you need  therapy. As a long time musician I can create music (the absolute sound?...hmmm) mys...
Can a power amp have too much power, risking damage to a speaker?
Note that any tube guitar amp from a 5 watt studio amp to a 100 watt whatever will often be used overdriven with distortion into the speakers for DECADES with no harm done. If people are lame enough to drive their delicate little home stereo speak...
SPEAKER CABLE OR INTERCONNECT
I have longish speaker cable requirements caused by amp placement necessities, and I've used various brands of cables over the years...recently decided to try the recently upgraded Kimber 8PR that gets to 10awg at the posts...a GREAT and relativel...
