Bi-wiring mishap
I think that's why miners used to take canaries into the mines with them, not their girlfriends. Buy her flowers Kublakhan, she will be able to smell them and look at them. Make that two bouquets - bi-flowering. Best of luck.
Impulsive audio purchase
I made one rash, expensive consumer decision in my life - I bought a Bryston amp six months ago. Now I don't regret it but it just seemed to create more rash decisions. So my New Years resolution was to keep the rash decisions to software. Much ch...
Marble to place speakers on?
Kevint: spike the monitors on the slabs?
Best Movie Soundtrack
I'm with Trelja, "Alfie" is an amazing jazz album even if does have Michael Caine and Shelly Winters on the cover. Also check out the "O Brother, Where Art Thou" 'track, it carried the movie. I've read that Gladiator is quite something. Michael Ca...
really small speakers less than 500
Happnick, www.goodsound.com has a list of affordable speakers in the size you mention (Paradigms, PSB. B&W, NHT). If space is a consideration then audition the PSBs as they're designed to be placed near walls, something apartment dwellers like...
Marble to place speakers on?
Kevint, I have monitors and carpet and was having trouble levelling them so I bought 2 13"x13" floor tiles. I would be worried about raising your monitors too much because of the vertical position vis-a-vis your ears. I found that the sound is tig...
Hockey Pucks under amp?
I tried the hockey pucks under my amp but it just encouraged more high sticking in the living room and lead too more penalties. You should try listening with a goalie mask on, it just seems to tighten everything up. Go Canucks!
Japanese vs Domestic CD s
Prfont, I was told by a specialty dealer that the special edition remasters are the same as XRCD and if you look at the back covers you will see that they have licenced "something" from JVC. Hope this helps
Japanese vs Domestic CD s
cornfed, if your into jazz check out Fantasy's Prestige and Riverside 20-bit cds remasters of classics. they licence the xrcd technology but don't charge the big bucks.
High End and Classical Music
I'm with Sean. I just got into audiodiction recently and once I stopped buying equipment every other day I started to listen and wanted that "hair on the back of the neck" feeling. I'm a Deadhead and bluegrass fan and I started to listen to Miles ...
Anyone heard "O Brother Where Art Thou?
Bought the disc first. Saw the movie last week. I'm a big Coen brothers fan (Miller's Crossing is one of my top 5). If you love mythology and weirdness its great. What was really interesting to me was that the real star of the movie was the music ...
Honesty of the Reviewers
I think we have to look at ourselves in the mirror when asking questions of these reviewers. They're just feeding our habit and doing so eloquently. Haven't we spent time carefully listening and researching equipment, buying it taking it home and ...
Any good cheap integrated amps?
Thanks for the responses. The more I think about it the more I like the option of radio - I don't have to get up from my desk. Any suggestions as to a receiver, old or new with a good tuner. Thanks again.
Amp suggestion for Legacy Focus
A friend of mine finally stopped his search with the Bryston 7B monoblocks, Theta digital, LAMM pre and XLO cabling to feed the Foci. The 7Bs are more power than he needs right now and as I recall those speakers are highly efficient so with that i...
Heavy Metaller needs some class ical .
Ccerny: Great question. I just got into this high end thing myself and am currently going through the growing pains of actually critically listening to the music. Those old Grateful Dead recordings just don't cut it. But I recently picked up the R...
