Speaker cable for Green Mountain Audio Callisto
Am I missing something? The Callisto, which I've owned, is a wonderful speaker, originally retailing for, what, $2200 and now retailing for $2900. Now there are 3 posters who recommend speaker wire (Virtual Dynamics) that retails for $2200 for a p...
Phase Inversion in Preamplifer?
Yes, thanks for the reply, but what about the fact that the phono stage is not inverted while the rest is? Is this anything I need to do anything about?
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Sean, Would either of these do MC phono better than ATI/Yamaha or ATI/Adcom or ATI/Nakamichi or ATI/B&K combos? Thanks, Rich
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Thanks again folks.Viridian, thanks for the correction on my limited "research" into the Adcoms and MC.Seantaylor99, assuming I take your advice and sell the ATI for, say, $300, that leaves me $600 for an integrated. What integrated can you recomm...
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Well, I've done a small bit of checking and it appears that the Adcom 555 and 565 are MM only. If so, they wouldn't fill the bill.
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Viridian, now you're talking! How does the Adcom's MC stage compare to the vintage Yamaha preamps? Over at the vintage forum on audiokarma the Yamaha C and CX models have scads of superb comments. And if I remember correctly, at least some of thos...
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Thanks for the recommendations thus far. The Nakamichi appears to be the only one within my actual price range. Also, no one has commented on the virtues (vices?) of the Yamaha (C-2, C-80, C-85, CX-800) and B&K (Pro-10MC) models that I'm looki...
What is the best way to burn in my new speakers
In my opinion speaker burn-in is A BIT overrated -- a good speaker should sound pretty good new out of the box, so I prefer to just play them when I play them and let nature take its course. Sure it takes a little longer to burn them in this way, ...
ZYX RS20 vs Denon DL103
I just changed from a Grado Reference Sonata to a 103R. I was ready to sacrifice the Grado's lush midrange because I wanted a bit more upper range detail and a bit more bass. The 103R does provide the increased upper and lower ends I was looking f...
Turntable, Vinyl help................please
I must respectfully disagree with Dougdeacon's use of the phrase "entry level" in reference to a $1,000 turntable. $1,500 exceeds the annual income of many citizens of small nations. "Entry level" might be more akin to the $50 or so that you might...
Turntable, Vinyl help................please
First, welcome back! I've been doing vinyl again after a 15 year absence. Other than the preoccupation with these audio sites that developed when I started seeking info, the habit has been pure pleasure. Now, I want ot say that anyone who says you...
Record Cleaning Again
"...anal actually." Exactly. If this kind of compulsive behavior works for you, take the time and do it. For me, life's too short -- I prefer to listen to the records I have.
Is there high output MC that can compete/beat ...
Thanks dave. Does the 2.5 mV, which is at the low end of the Gram Amp 2's stated needs, mean tha I'm going to have to crank the volume more to get the same level of sound as with the Sonata (which is about 4 mV, if I remember correctly)? Thanks, Rich
Is there high output MC that can compete/beat ...
Well, that's pretty unanimous! Now, the important question, which I forgot to include in my original post: is the Dynavector compatible with my Gram Amp 2Se phono preamp, which needs an input of "2 to 9 mV rms"? Thanks, Rich
Turntable oil bearing
OK, some beginner questions if you all don't mind. First, how do I get the old oil out? Second, how do I get the new oil in? Third, how much oil are we talking about? Finally, how do I know when I've put the right amount in? Your help is appreciat...
