Mono Cartridge -
I'm a lower budget guy so you may want to dismiss what I say. For the past couple of years I've used the low-budget Grado monos -- MC+ ($80) and ME+ ($130). Obviously they're not the last word in sonic quality, but they did cut down on a lot of gr...
Newb needs help.
Someone has just listed a pair of Green Mountain Audio Continuum 1's for sale here on a'gon. I bought a used pair of the same speaker about 3 years ago for the same price. This is a killer deal. This is the speaker for which Roy Johnson developed ...
dead quiet
I've had analog gear where I heard that faint hum if I got right up next to either speaker, so I think I understand what you're talking about. I don't have it now, and my system is what most of you would call mid-fi, so I don't think it's a proble...
Any Phono Stage that can load 100k, for $300 used?
Audiofeil,Why are you so troubled that I want to TRY this out? I'm not marrying Raul, and I'm not setting anything on fire. Based on Raul's extensive, thoughtful comments and experiments, I am simply curious to give the 100k loading for MM a try. ...
Any Phono Stage that can load 100k, for $300 used?
Again, thanks for the responses. I'm hoping others weigh in with alternative options to the Phonomena, but if not I'll be keeping my eyes open for a used one. Thanks Chadnliz for the endorsement of the Phonomena.
Any Phono Stage that can load 100k, for $300 used?
Thanks for the quick replies but, frankly, they don't answer my question. First, I'm not interested in being talked out of the experiment. Second, I specifically say that I want to avoid any units where I have to modify the parts to achieve the ob...
Best protractor for aligning to cantilever
Dougdeacon,Is there a mirrored protractor for Stevenson geometry? I have a vintage Yamaha YP-D8 table and if I understand correctly Yamaha used Stevenson for their arm/table alignment. I have a turntablebasics mirrored protractor that I used with ...
Knowing Nothing About Capacitance...
Great! Thanks. So why does AT make the OC-9ml with only 20 ohm impedance? The other carts I've seen are all higher. Is it advantageous at all?
Knowing Nothing About Capacitance...
Raul,You're absolutely right -- I mistakenly said capacitance. The AT-OC9mlii says that the Recommended load impedance is 20 ohms. The Denon says that its MC phono stage is 100 ohms.By the way, Tvad, the MM phono input for the Denon is 47k.So, is ...
AT150MLX or 540mkII?
Thanks Jaybo.Has anyone else had a chance to compare the AT150MLX to the 540MKII? Or can you point me somewhere on the web where they're compared? Thanks, Rich
Please help with old Yamaha table
You might have better luck asking at audiokarma.org, where there are a number of vintage Yamaha enthusiasts. One of them just recently sold 2 refurbished YP-D71s (merrylander), so he might be able to help you.I have a YP-D8 myself and think it's g...
Best Value Speaker Model for the Buck?
I thought I got the greatest steal ever when I picked up my GMA Continuum 1's here last year for $800 -- this speaker out performs the Callisto! Think of it as a Callisto with integrated subwoofers, if you will. For $800! Then, just recently, some...
MMF-5 in a Home Theater Setup...
Hi. I'm in a somewhat similar situation, listening to audio via a Yamaha RX-V2400 HT receiver. I've auditioned numerous budget phono stages this past year and IN MY SYSTEM here's what I found. The internal phono stage is comparable to these: NAD P...
Recommended first turntable?
That's the spirit. Guy wants to try something new and you all out and out discourage him. So, after 15 years without vinyl (this is 4 or so years ago), I got curious to hear it again. Bought a used Yamaha table for $35 on ebay. Bought a Bonnie Rai...
best "entry level" audiophile TT?
Hey Guys, listening is SUBJECTIVE. How can you claim to know how good or bad a table sounded to someone else? Some like the sound of one table, others don't. Period. No claim of OBJECTIVE superiority can be sustained or substantiated.Myself, I'm t...
