Speaker of the Century Award Goes To ....
High frequency hearing acuity is almost irrelevant since 99% of musical energy is below 6KHz...
Most “disappeared” speakers.
Omnidirectional speakers
A little Patience sometimes pays off! (Kef LS50 content)
@yyzsantabarbara KEF is also Andrew Jones’ former employer, (he really gets around!) They have the Kef R3 and Reference 1.

This is why Andrew Jones says the ideal bookshelf speaker is a 3 way, coaxial with a separate woofer. You get the imaging of a coaxial with the woofer handling the bass frequencies which are less directional below 200hz.
Gamut RS3i vs. Joseph Audio Pulsars
I suspect the Kef Reference 1 will beat both of them ;)If you look at the Gamut RS7, which uses the same 1.5" tweeter and 7" woofer, they have the expected directivity issue with the huge FR hole at 2K due to using a 7" midrange driver. A 1.5" twe...
Mating a SVS SB16 with a JL F113 v2 subwoofer?
I'm sure it'll sound fine, probably just look off from the decor matching perspective...
Does anyone play two pairs of speakers at the same time?
Focal speakers BE tweeters are typically 27mm (1.125"), like Dynaudio's esotar which is also 1.1". It's a little more directional than a typical 25mm tweeter, which generally leads to a less "airy" sound since you have less reflections.
Worth the wait? Buchardt S400's
Vocals being muddy is a general side effect of wide dispersion, if you want clear vocals that cut through everything you want a speaker that has a rise in 3-4k region and has limited dispersion so you are listening to a higher percentage of direct...
Speakers under $50k that rival $200k+ speakers?
https://www.stereophile.com/content/tidal-audio-akira-loudspeaker I'd like to hear the Akira though. $70k in accuton drivers. Yeah, it's 215k, but if I was a 0.1%er I'd buy these.
Revel Ultima Salon 2
IMO Raidho’s are overpriced. You are basically paying for the cabinet work and something that’s built in Denmark. I don’t think they sound any better than Salk Soundscape or some other high end systems with a RAAL 70-20 tweeter that are a fraction...
Super tweeters, are they worthwile?
The way these are typically deployed can be analogized like running your speakers full range then throwing in a subwoofer. Basically you are running double bass. A lot of 1" dome tweeters get directional above 5KHz, i.e, they start beaming when yo...
I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
The high end speaker market is also primarily serving an audience that's getting older and whittling down in number, and with real estate getting so expensive in metro areas, fewer and fewer people can afford to actually own a traditional stereo s...
Pulsars and the Mythical Armchair Speaker Maker
I don’t personally want to wade into the DIY vs Pulsars camp, but I do object to some people in some of the older Pulsar threads who having been hyping the Pulsars as if no other company can do the same thing with off-the shelf drivers as if JA ha...
Ribbon midrange pros and cons
RAAL ribbons are great and the 70-20 can be crossed over as low as 1800hz in a 2-way. However, compared to a dome with good excursion they lack some dynamic punch in lower mids, so generally they are better off in a 3-way because of this.
Pulsars and the Mythical Armchair Speaker Maker
@erik_squires I think some people who are more price conscious might do some internal calculus and decide to go with speakers from say selah audio or salk or GR or some other speaker builder that would be happy to build you a speaker with the same...
