beryllium vs diamond
@rbstehno When people talk about diamond tweeters they are talking about condensed vaporized diamond. The DMD drivers in the Ushers are just ceramic tweeters, just like their BE line is nothing more than titanium tweeters.
Clearwave Duet 6 / Usher Audio BE-718 / or...?
It’s not a bad tweeter per se, besides the somewhat limited dispersion due to it being a large-ish (1.25") tweeter. If you want a larger soundstage you probably should opt for something smaller like a 1" tweeter. But the tweeter is perfectly compe...
Clearwave Duet 6 / Usher Audio BE-718 / or...?
Usher BE-718 use titanium tweeters, not beryllium. This was actually exposed back in 2009 in an investigative piece by Brush Wellman. Because of that journalism Usher had to can their beryllium series and replaced it with the DMD line.
DynAudio Contour 60 vs Paradigm Persona 7F
Dynaudio has a much better target curve than whatever Paradigm is doing with Persona series--trying to copy B&W or something.
New Dynaudio Confidence 50 and 60
It's too bad they don't use the new waveguide with the Confidence 20 bookshelf speaker, it could definitely use it. The dispersion on it is sub-par compared to Revel, KEF, or the new Buchardt S400.
Revel F228BE
Salon 2 spinoramaRevel F228Be spinoramaThe F228Be has a flatter sound power, and will sound a bit more forward. The Salon 2 will sound more in the background due to the dip at 2K. Salon2s have more bass.
Top Notch Desktop System
Also regarding ME-1, I demoed the ME-1 against the KEF Reference 1 with a few friends and we all agreed the Reference 1 was more pleasing to listen to. The Reference 1 sounds a bit rolled off--go the R3 if you want more neutral--whereas the ME-1 i...
Top Notch Desktop System
If you can fit them, I think the KEF R3s are amazing nearfield. Smoother polar response (thanks to the tangerine waveguide from the Reference series handed down) than the LS50s and more extended bass.
Speakers better than Revel Salon 2
Salon 2s are very hard to beat. KEF Reference series have slightly better measurements due to the nature of the coaxial driver leads to uniform dispersion, the sound power/directivity is smoother than the Salon 2s because of the better vertical ax...
Best Computer Speakers
The best would have to be the Genelec 8331 or 8341 IMO. Very close to a point source with deep bass extension for the small size and 3-way design.
Why I'm going to CanJam Socal
The highest rated IEMs in the $350 and under range at least according to Head-Fi’s big review threads seem to be the Periodic Audio Be and the Etymotic ER4XR. If you are open to open-backs, then iSine 10/20 are very well reviewed.
Buy a pair of ten year old $40,000 speakers for $4,000 or new ones at that price point?
If I could get a 10 year old pair of Revel Salon 2s for $2,200, even with some scratches or slightly damaged cabs, I would take it in a heartbeat lol.
Is the NHT xd System worth buying today?
XDa was a nice technical attempt to make a very neutral speaker using DSP but today I think with much better room correction software available for both powered speakers like GLM or Dirac Live for passives it's somewhat long in the tooth.
Dealers and exaggerated treble
No, because the treble is above the room transition frequency. Unless you are in a tiny room with no porous surfaces (the walls are made of glass or something), the difference in treble should be from whether you are listening directly on-axis or ...
Best Powered Monitors
Genelec The Ones are very, very good. The 8331, 8341, and 8351 are point source designs based on a 3-way coaxial driver system.
