bi-amp question No smoke. Consider yourself lucky...
bi-amp question I think if you just flip the wires around you will let the magic smoke out of the receiver. It will cause a short between the channel pairs. You need different cables, or modify the ones you have to insure the four conductors are separate on each end.
Best Digital Cable, Regardless of Price.... Try this one in the Belden 1694A. http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/digital-audio/index.htmAt only $12.75 for 3-ft, what do you have to loose? Heck, it even uses real 75-ohm RCA connectors....
AC polarisation. Does it matter? You need to be sure all the outlets are wired correctly; do not reverse wiring in the outlets to correct for downsteam issues with your cables/gear.Once you are sure about the outlets, you can work on the rest to get them all straighted out. My .0...
Speakers for 80s rock? Cerwin-Vega D9's....
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers I'd certainly agree that top notch speakers should better when driven with good electronics.I would love to sit in on a properly done ABX test comparing cheap, mediocre, and high-end gear to find out for myself just what, if any, differences there...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers IMO there is nothing in the audio chain that will change the sound of a system more than the speakers. The best electronics in the world will not make crappy speakers sound good.My .02 is the most on speakers, maybe half, give or take a litte. Then...
What is the difference btwn dolby digital and dts? Yes, DTS is less compression. However, I seem to vaguely recall thinking some DD movies sounded better than their DTS counterparts, not really sure why that would be though.
In what ways is Mark Levinson better than Krell? Cello,I contacted Harman/Mark Levinson about a tune up on my 23. I was quoted a flat rate regardless of the extent of tune up or repair necessary. I was told the flat rate would cover what ever it would take to restore the unit to as new performan...

Yamaha RX-Z1 with Studio 100'S V2. As good as the amps in the Yammy receiver may be, I doubt they're as good as an independent 2-ch stereo amp.Whether they're good enough for you, I can't answer. Why not try it and find out?Let us know what you discover.
Distant from front wall Here is some info from the Cardas website that gives a formula for speaker placement. My conditions do not permit the distance from back wall so I cannot speak to the exact outcome.Speaker placement, simply statedThe distance from the center of the...
How does my set-up sound? Combining the wires may be overkill depending on the distance, but better to make use of them than just leaving unused.Another possibility would be to run the speaker pairs through the quad cable and cut back the jacket enough so that each pair re...
Do you get Ringing in the Ears from your hi-fi? Could be distortion, could be metal tweeters, could be SS amps, but more than likely it's simply the +125dB SPL...
How does my set-up sound? Wes,Sorry, missed the possible addition of the SP-99D. That would add Dolby Digital (5.1), but that's all. It's still quite an improvment over Dolby ProLogic, but I think you could do better even with a newer surround receiver, let alone a newer p... |
