Better Way To Biamp?
Biamping with 200 high and 200 low is not like having 400 watts to the speaker. The low freqs require nearly all the power going to a speaker so bi-amping with 200x2 is only marginally better pwer wise than just 200 watts total.I'm just making an e...
What's your worst excuse for an upgrade
04-30-05: SmotykaBecause I can. This might be the REASON, not excuse, when it comes to some things...like cables...
whats your idea of loud music.
Alpha_03 said...Seems to me there is some difficulty with what a dB is and how it relates to the ability of the human ear, and hearing. 80dB is not very loud at all, but then is 150db loud to a jet mechanic? Not to me- I wear ear phones. The source...
a great take on big$ cables
Snofun I agree. If cables make as much difference as some people claim, it should be easy to pass a DBT or ABX test, right?DBT and ABX are standard methods applied in many fields. Why is it in audio that the tests and methodology are deemed flawed...
Paradigm subs?????
Far as I know, there are only two Servo 15's. Well, maybe three if you count the Signature as a different model. Cosmetically it is much fancier lookin cabinetry than the standard model, but the guts are the same.Don't know all the differences, bu...
Pre-Amp Reliability -- 4th time mine has conked
I have several pieces of gear that are 15-22 years old and these have never needed repair. They're not even "audiophile" grade, just some lowly Yamaha stuff. Oh, I almost forgot, the Levinson No. 23 is getting on in years too with no problems.
Reviews with all double blind testing?
I find this a very interesting topic. On one hand, it is somewhat accepted that the perfect component imposes no sonic qualites of it's own on the passing signal, but yet voicing of components is often referred to - particularly in the case of cabl...
Could some one explain how to buy best cables?
I'm sure you will get plenty of recommendations full of anecdotal evidence speaking of detail, air, soundstage, etc. However, I do not believe there has ever been a blind test where anyone could sonically differentiate a very expensive cable vs. a ...
Which way to go - Levinson or Odyssey?
I inquired about a factory tune-up/checkout on my Lev No. 23 amp. I was quoted a flat rate of $1200 to completely refurbish the amp regardless of what needs to be done. The problem is I just wanted a factory checkout and this is the only option I'...
Canare 4S11 Star Quad cables for speaker
So while EMI/RFI and resistance could be reduced (matters only if it was a problem in the first place), what are the effects on capacitance and inductance?Without knowing, I'd have to venture a guess that the (L/C) properties suffer in some way at...
Bi-Amping
Nobody is questioning the Proton amps - I'm sure they are very nice.Pretty much the bottom line is that the very best case only provides 3dB more volume doing what you are doing and the average case, less than 3dB. So, it is no surprise to some an...
Canare 4S11 Star Quad cables for speaker
Quadstar is more or less just a double twisted pair. The following is quoted from the Blue Jeans Cable website on Canare Quadstar:"When conventionally wired, star quad speaker cable has the advantage of reducing the EM field around the cable, which...
Mark Levinson 25 vs 25s vs JC-2
Just a side note. The Fischer CAMAC adapters are $22.50 (maybe cheaper if you are a dealer) and I was told a minimum of $100 order.I just ordered several CAMAC plugs to make some cables and also two adapters to fill the minimum order requirements ...
Request for insight/opinion
Are you using the digital or analog connection to play the CDs? I'm somewhat assuming the analog since that't the only way you could use the analog bypass.Regardless of which way it is now, maybe try the other way to see if there is any change for...
Canare 4S11 Star Quad cables for speaker
Lots of people use it, but pretty much ANY plain old copper wire of 16ga or larger is adequate for most situations. If you have longer runs (>30-40ft), then a larger gauge (smaller number) is appropriate. The question is do you really want to sp...
