Budget $3000-3500 new or used
Here's a random thought. Although a just a bit above your budget, there is a pair of Linn Akurate 242 for sale here on A'Gon right now (no, I am not the seller). HUGE value even at the asking price of $4,500. I had the Akurate 212 (the monitor) fo...
What's a good alternative to Pass Labs?
IMHO, the issue is not the X250.5. Rather, the Pass amp is revealing issues elsewhere in the chain, most likely upstream: source/pre-amp/dac.
ARC Ref CD-8 compared to CD-6 and/or Ref CD-9
I too moved from the CD-7 to CD-8, and my experience matches closely Bifwynne's well said observations about the differences between the two. Both are great CDPs, but that extra bit of top end air that Jakegt3 seeks is there in the CD-8.
Anti-Cables speaker cable impressions:
I had a similar issue as the OP with Anti Cables L3 with our KEF Reference 201/2. For us (for now) the fix has been to combine Anti Cables L3 with Canare 4S11. It is a bit unorthodox, but I can report that this combo sounds really, really good acr...
What JL Subs to pair with Harbeth SHL-5 Speakers?
Valinar makes a good point that in a your relatively large room, perhaps the 40.1 is the better choice. But if you stick with SLH-5, a pair of JL F113 should be plenty -- provided you split the signal and relieve the SLH-5 of the bass work. If you...
Who did hear the new Pass Labs .8 series amps?
Thanks, Cal, interesting. Our listening space too is L-shaped into dining area/kitchen and has bass challenges. But we are using a sub below 125 Hz, so our X250.5 does not do any low bass work, and it sounds sweet yet very natural and transparent ...
Who did hear the new Pass Labs .8 series amps?
Cal: I would be interested in a bit more detailed description of your experiences concluding that the XA30.5, and now XA60.8, "do everything better" (save for bass) than your former X250.5. Peterayer: Really interesting and informative post. Nice ...
Mini-monitors $5,000 - $10,000
Serious eye candy with high WAF that sounds great: KEF Reference 201/2. You will want a sub also -- but heck, I say you need a sub with all of the monitors mentioned above (and yes, I also own the Pulsar and auditioned the C1 extensively).
Who did hear the new Pass Labs .8 series amps?
Skootb: I too would be interested in your observations about the differences from your former x250.5. Please expound.
Focal diablo Utopias in large room?
Break off the relationship, get the ring back, cash it in, then use the cash for a nifty upgrade. But seriously, move the speakers every time you want to use your system? That's crazy. The lady needs to get with program.
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
Your post raises many issues that depend on many variables and unknowns, and I suggest that you spend some time researching more specific topies here on A'Gon and elsewhere. I offer ony a few general observations. Your heavy metal music preference...
MA7000 overkill for B&W 805D's??
Agree, the MA7000 would be nice with the 805Ds. But, why not try something different upstairs, just for the fun of it?
7 months in and still loving these...
Indeed, fabulous speakers. I auditioned a pair of IB2i for hours on end, trying to figure a way to rationalize putting them in my (admittedly) simply too small and tightly configured listening space. I had to pass, as they just wouldn't fit. But s...
Pass Labs Point 8 Series info
Kiddman's post is spot-on and well said.
Small Monitors and Book shelves for Rock Music?
Linn Katan, is a great value and will do what you want. That said, knowing your budget would inform the question. Other posters' suggestion to go active is a good one. The Linn can go active, but is also really good without.
