Being into esoteric audio gear is much like the world of sports cars...some feel a Ferrari or Porsche may be a sports car while others feel  a Camaro or Mustang is a sports car....and some feel going out to eat is the best locally owned supper clu...

millercarbon made me think of how many of the audio units I loved the looks of were tuners.....I hadn't done that mental  A+B=C  in my head.

hilde45   I have been lucky/unlucky enough to own and drive some exotics, including Italian cars.  The local, private repair shop I used would jokingly talk of how many "units" it was going to cost to repair that car...with each "unit" being one...

Thanks for the responses so far.  It is good to know others see design/cosmetics/looks to be a factor....perhaps not the main factor, but a factor none the less. I still find the "Thunder-Lizard 2000e" speakers to be without peer,...if you are not...

I have been doing "high-end" audio since 1969, both personally and professionally.....now retired.  Starting with Dynaco to many others most of you could identify with on my journey.I knew I was hooked for life when I took a pair of the original A...

Your listening room can be as different (sonically) as the different performing arts centers of the world.  The ones in Kobenhavn, vs.  the ones in L.A. and NYC are all different.....and, of course, your seat placement and the impact that has........

Thanks to all.  My two main sources for music are my own CD/SACD collection and two very good college/public radio stations.....mainly listen to classic Jazz from the 40s through the 70s and  female vocals.

I had several different amplification units with the Maggie 1.6, 3.6, and 20.  The ARC, Bryston, and several other separates were all good with their variations.  A surprising unit with these was the early Magnum Dynalab 208 receiver....it was ver...

Everything in the high end is boutique.  What is sold at Wal-Mart, the local TV/hardware store and the rest of the chains is what most  people use to play "their music".  Where most people get their boombox type of thing is also the place you can ...
