Mountain and Cactus
Big fan of Mountain in their heyday- saw them open for Tull right before Aqualung was released. Cactus- have their early albums, not as familiar with their work.
Is this out there
Decca Headline, Gerhard's The Plague, spoken word, Dorati conducting, based on Camus. One of the few HP List records that I still play occasionally.
The sense of smell evokes memories, while the sense of hearing evokes emotions
There are times when I get more involved through better sonics, but there are also times when I'm engaged thoroughly through the crappy laptop or whatever. So much depends on mood in my estimation. In writing about Atomic Rooster's Death Walks Behi...
Zerostat Milty really?
@slaw- My "Pull"? Surely you jest! :)it's all good, man. (Saul Goodman, aka ’Better Call Saul’-- love that show).
Zerostat Milty really?
I would try to get to the source of the static. You (@fromunda) said you have hardwood floors. Are you wearing socks, long pants that chafe? I play records barefoot and it makes a big difference. Relative humidity is, as mentioned, an important fa...
Going to NYC from the outback of Oregon. Again...
I'd be delighted to give you some restaurant recommendations as well if you want to PM me. Food is something that NYC used to be very well known for, less unique now that the foodie revolution has spread, and there are many great restaurants every...
Going to NYC from the outback of Oregon. Again...
I lived in New York from 1981 until the end of 2016. My last foray, apart from the FMU show, which is fantastic, was a trip to Brooklyn, which I wrote about here: https://thevinylpress.com/road-trip-brooklyn-record-shopping/ Have fun.
Coupling vs Decoupling
@geoffkait - fair comment. I offered it not as a complete set of solutions but a starting point to understand the differences. Spring thing is good here (MinusK), at least under my turntable (~238 lbs with plinth).
Coupling vs Decoupling
Gary Koh wrote this a while ago- may help your general understanding of the principles: http://www.kosmic.us/Genesis%20Loudspeaker%20Coupling%20&%20Decoupling.pdf
Bozak concert grand speakers
@mlolaird- it is possible that your father added a super tweeter. I am not familiar with the term "crystal bar" in audio, but there were piezo electric tweeters, electrostatic ones and others. Can you get more information from a label on the back?
Bozak concert grand speakers
It sounds like you are not going to keep and use them, so is the question how to sell them? They are a classic, though it would appeal to a narrower market due to size, weight and vintage. I gather that the crossovers could be improved (there was a...
Dead Can Dance reissues - not happy
I compared the original 4AD, the MoFi, and the redo on vinyl from a couple years ago- I suspect that the redo was digitally mastered, and couldn’t verify when DCD stopped recording analog. The MoFi is a little ’chestier" and than the original 4AD;...
We lost an audiophile and a friend- RIP- Joe
sorry you lost a friend.
Mac Mini as a music server
I'm using a Mac Mini as a cheap point of entry to computer audio. Didn't buy one with a flash drive, and am not sure you even need to spend the money for more processing power. I use Audirvana, which sounds good (i haven't compared to others) and ...
Many seem to be talking about their last system .
@mechans -- they probably have you lifting heavy boxes and running the 1/4 mile. You feeling better?
