Would you trust a local dealer to help you put Burt, Your perspective is valuable. But, I'm not sure every dealer will go out of his/her way to accomodate a customer who wants a product the dealer doesn't carry. It basically means sending the customer to a competitor, no matter how friendly. (...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put Burt, prop. said:"Moreover, I take issue with individual component reviews vs. system reviews. Brand X preamp may we highly touted and reference caliber but only when placed within certain systems. "I couldn't agree more. Assembling a 'system' on ...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put As I remember SBS, one month he was promoting brand X as the best thing since sliced bread, and a few months later, it was an entirely different brand. I bought a few pieces from him back in the day but they were things I went in knowing i wanted-...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put foster, i misunderstood the premise. then yes, of course, take advantage of what a good dealer can offer you. (and by that, I don't mean tap their knowledge, and then buy on line), a good dealer is, to me, worth the premium if they can offer the k...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put This thread has morphed a little, which is ok, but I want to come back to the original premise: would you just let the dealer pick the system for 10 grand? My view had nothing to do with whether you could trust the dealer- assuming the best intenti...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put Tennis- I think you meant 'can't.'Schubert- yes, there is something appealing about that, including the idea of an integrated amp today when, 20 years ago, it would likely have been a compromise. I suspect though, that you are only at the point wh...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put Even if I trusted the dealer, I'm not sure their sonic choices would necessarily be mine. Add to that, few dealers carrying everything- they will be constrained by the brands they represent. So, I wouldn't do it, although I'd certainly listen to w...

Magnepan Service HORRIBLE??? Why bother to have them shipped back to you? Once repaired, presumably with a warranty of some sort from Mag, you could arrange to have them drop shipped to your buyer directly from Magnepan, and potentially have the buyer pick up the shipping cos...

5AR4/GZ34 Rectifier Tubes Mr. Tennis: I believe Brimar is an acronym for 'British Made American Range" tubes, and they do make an equivalent rectifier. I also saw a pair of 12AT7 for less than a comparable pair of Telefunken small tubes. Just have a web search. Have fun.
HUM - you can catch fish in a dingy too. I have no idea if this will solve your problem, but I took a look at your system pics, and it looks like the amp is next to the TT and the preamp is under it? Perhaps reposition those components? Try the amp on a floor with some sort of platform o...
Music to Impress my Kid's Friends? One of the twenty something's I work with who is in the music biz is raving about Gaslight Anthem's latest album, which just got released. Haven't heard it, so I can't comment.Last month's flavor was Alabama Shakes- I wasn't terribly impressed.Alb...
5AR4/GZ34 Rectifier Tubes I'm hardly an expert on this, but in debates over the merits of various rectifier tubes for my phono stage power supply, one well informed industry person brought up the topic of voltage drop or sag. I know anecdotally about this from the musical ... |
