LP's... Do they sound better now than 30 yrs ago? Case by case, record by record. I buy old pressings 10/1 over new ones. I have nothing against reissues or remasters as such; some do actually improve on the early or original pressing (whatever you want to call "original" also varies); some are o...
Titles in the Carnegie Hall Selection Committee vinyl releases This may help: https://www.discogs.com/label/455064-International-Preview-Society. Not sure this is a complete list since as you probably know, discogs is basically crowd-sourced, but it is a start. Let us know what you find.
Why not batteries instead of power supplies? To add to the list, there are the folks at Definitive Audio/Living Voice in the UK that starting making full system battery supplies some years ago--covered in 6Moons, among other places. I'm sure improvements in battery technology have only helpe...
Why not batteries instead of power supplies? I own the Veloce Lithio line stage, which is powered by lithium batteries; it was a "hot" product a few years ago, and now is rarely mentioned or even on the radar. Vytas, the designer/manufacturer offered an update about a year or so ago which I...
When Money Is No Object -- You Buy Bose? Well done, @p
When Money Is No Object -- You Buy Bose? There was a pretty rough picture of Faye Dunaway’s living room back when she was a top performer in H-wood--she had someone custom build in stacked Quad ESLs so they effectively disappeared but, it was hard to tell from the picture--they appeared ...
When Money Is No Object -- You Buy Bose? People who live in glass rooms shouldn't throw sound waves.
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model) With apologies for the diversion re records for a moment@chakster - I am in the same situation, from the U.S. perspective- there are many records in Europe that aren't terribly expensive but desirable and the shipping cost is sometimes equal to, o...
Question for cable/wire naysayers..... When I first started playing with good gear, there was no such thing as a premium cable. (Wasn’t Fulton the first commercial audiophile cable?). I wired my Quad ESLs with zip cord, can’t remember the interconnect, it wasn’t the cheap plastic molde...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters @mapman I don’t know if it is #1 on your list, but in my experience playing LPs, some records simply don’t have much deep bass. Whether it is a result of the original recording, the mix, or the mastering, it isn’t there. There are many times listen...
Why do better MC cartridges cost a fortune? @rauliruegas - Raul, i followed that thread periodically over the years. Here's what I plan to do. I am not getting rid of my Airtight Supreme. But, since I have another very good table on which I plan to install a 3012r with detachable headshell, ...
What direction is VPI headed? Aren't the VPIs upgradeable? That would make sense. The notion that they won't accommodate any other arm doesn't make any sense.
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use? I never made the jump. But looking at options to play Redbook now, only because some of the records I'm chasing are beyond expensive- 3 and 4 figures. No legit vinyl reissue, or mediocre reissue. But older, some from the tape CDs legitimately rele...
The longest you have owned any gear? I still have my:ARC Dual 75a- it was refurbished about 15 years ago and is presently not in use- purchased new in 1974-5;Quad ESL- refurbished recently and now in use- purchased used in 1973;Technics SP-10 turntable- refurbished and ready to go in...
Is it the beer or do speakers/electronics really need some extended warm-up period? Just to be clear, I think the 'warm up' (at least that i'm referring to) involves playing it- not simply letting it stand idle after turn on. @hifijones -thanks for bringing out that distinction. |
